The long awaited NFL season is finally here. While it may be exciting, remember not to bet your whole bankroll on Week 1, I still want you guys to still be reading these articles in Week 8. We start out with arguably one of the best matchups possible, with two title favorites kicking it off on Thursday.

Bills vs. Rams Player Prop Pick

  • Darrell Henderson (LAR) O 28.5 Rushing Yards

Let's start out with the Rams running back situation. There's nothing like starting the season with a bet that could make me look incredibly stupid already. I just don't understand these running back lines, considering all we’ve heard this offseason is that a timeshare is likely. Additionally, just a couple weeks ago McVay told reporters that Henderson was a couple steps ahead of Akers in terms of health. I’m not sure the Rams are going to be rushing him back to a full role in Week 1. If you're once again planning on contending for a Super Bowl, you're not just playing for Week 1 but looking at the full season outlook. There's no reason to rush one of your talented players back.

The elephant in the room here is still Akers' health. I understand modern sports medicine is rapidly improving, but we still don't have any historical examples of NFL running backs miraculously coming back from these Achilies injuries to full strength. We saw on Sept. 3 that the Rams officially listed both Cam Akers and Darrell Henderson as starters on the depth chart, maybe that fades away as the season progresses but I’m trusting Henderson gets the job done in Week 1

Game script can be a problem with all rushing props, but I’m not going to count on one of the strongest teams in football blowing out another title contender. I think this game stays competitive throughout, meaning plenty of rushing opportunities. If Cam Akers starts out in the same form he was during last year's Super Bowl, I think Henderson will be in store for at least 12-14 touches - with potential to take over the role for at least Game 1. Riding the hot hand is very common from NFL coaches. While the Bills rush defense was strong last season, they still allowed 4.2 YPC, 8-10 carries should get us there.
