Eagles vs. Texans Player Prop Pick

  • Jalen Hurts (PHI) First Touchdown Scorer (+550)

The Eagles vs Texans probably gives up the highest spread of any primetime game so far this season. The Eagles are the only undefeated team in the NFL so far, with a 7-0 record. They have been impressive this season, with players on both sides of the ball playing beyond expectations. The Texans look like the bottom tier NFL team we expected them to be, behind stop gap quarterback Davis Mills. It's going to be hard to imagine the Texans upsetting in this matchup, but hopefully they can keep the game relatively close. The Eagles are currently 14 point favorites, with a total sitting at 44.5. The sportsbooks have been predicting a blowout, and the number has hovered been 13 and 14.5 over the past couple days.

One interesting thing to monitor is the Texans wide receivers room coming into this game. Nico Collins has been trending upwards for most of the season, but is still questionable and even if he does play he could be limited. Brandin Cooks seemingly wanted to be traded at the deadline, and has been liking angry messages on twitter. Maybe there could be some value on Phillip Dorsett or Chris Moore, but that's also stooping pretty low in the general NFL player talent pool. Considering the 14 point spread, we can assume that the Texans will be playing from beyond and likely to throw more, figuring out which receiver will benefit the most could be very profitable.

I was closely looking over the touchdown scorer odds, but was having a hard time finding value on either side. The more I thought about it, the more I liked the idea of trusting the Eagles to score first here. The only way I see the Texans scoring first is with a long sustained Dameon Pierce drive, but I think the Eagles keep them out of the endzone. The Eagles do have a number of guys that will compete for these red zone opportunities, but I like starting with Jalen Hurts. Hurts is such a scary-dual threat quarterback, and Houston has continued to rank at the bottom of the board against opponents rushing. While Miles Sanders has been good, especially in the YPC department, he really hasn't been much of a red zone threat in his career. I’m not sure Hurts will need to be running for most of this game, but I think he starts strong.
