Stanley Cup odds are finally moving to the forefront. As the championship series looms, the final two teams gear up for a run at the esteemed chalice.

The Florida Panthers have returned to the favorite in odds to win the Stanley Cup. But the Edmonton Oilers are only modest underdogs, in what should be a competitive series.

Florida Men

The Florida Panthers are on their way to the Stanley Cup Final, after knocking off the New York Rangers in six games. Florida finished it off with a 2-1 Game 6 victory Saturday to wrap up the Eastern Conference finals.

After knocking out Boston in the second round, the Panthers were +230 favorites in BetMGM's odds to win the Stanley Cup. After winning Game 1 against New York, Florida was into +160. The Panthers lost Games 2 and 3 to fall to the +380 third choice.

But Florida won Games 4, 5 and 6 to advance. The Panthers, flying under the radar all season, are now the -130 favorite to lift the Cup.

"The Panthers are the ideal outcome for the book. By far our best result," BetMGM trader Christian Cipollini. "Florida never takes any bets. The Panthers were one of our best results last year and stay that way this year. We'll be rooting for them to come out of the East."

Liability Leader

When factoring both digital betting (mobile/online) and retail betting, BetMGM has a clear root-against in the Stanley Cup odds market.

"The Oilers are still a problem. We're rooting for the Panthers," Cipollini said.

Edmonton beat Dallas 4-2 in the Western Conference finals and is +110 in BetMGM's Stanley Cup futures odds.
