NEW YORK RANGERS vs. PITTSBURGH PENGUINS PREDICTIONS

The Penguins picked up the upset in Game 1 at Madison Square Garden in triple-overtime, a game which saw them lose Casey DeSmith to a season-ending core muscle injury. The Rangers returned to the favor in a rout in Game 2 before the series shifted to Pittsburgh. The Pens enjoyed a little home cooking in Game 3, winning 7-4.

The Pens started quickly, as Brock McGinn scored an unassisted goal just 1:57 into the game. Pittsburgh scored a pair of power-play goals, and another even-strength marker in the first period, leading 4-1 after 20 minutes. That was all for Igor Shesterkin, who was pulled heading into the second period in favor of Alexandar Georgiev. The Rangers got Shesterkin off the hook with goals by Frank Vatrano, Artemi Panarin and Andrew Copp (SH) to knot the game at 4-4 heading to the third. In the final period, it was all Pens, as Danton Heinen notched the game-winning tally on an unassisted goal, and Jake Guentzel and Jeff Carter added empty-net goals to pile up a 7-4 win. That's three games, and three OVER results so far, so no sense betting against that now.

The Rangers suffered the high-scoring loss against the Penguins in Game 3, as it was a tale of three periods. The Penguins won the odd-numbered periods, and the Rangers won the even-numbered period. Unfortunately for New York, there is just one even-strength period. Shesterkin looked winded, and as well he should, after making 129 saves in just the first 10 periods of this series.

While New York has won just once in the past seven trips to the Steel City, that lone win did come in the regular season this year. And the favorite has won 10 of the past 14 meetings in this series, too.

For totals, it's all about the OVER, going 5-1 in the past six games overall, while cashing in five of the past six as a favorite, too. The OVER is 5-0-2 in the previous seven playoff games as a favorite, too, and 3-1-1 in the past five Eastern Conference Quarterfinals outings.

PITTSBURGH PENGUINS BETTING ANALYSIS

The Penguins have picked up five victories in the past six games on home ice, while cashing in 13 of the past 18 games as a home 'dog. They won 7-4 in Game 3, but they still have a third-string journeyman in the crease, trying to face down a top-notch offense.

Pittsburgh has cashed the OVER in four games overall, while going 13-6-1 in the past 20 home games. The OVER is 9-4-3 in the past 16 Eastern Conference Quarterfinals games, while cashing in six of the past eight when working on a day of rest, too.

NEW YORK RANGERS vs. PITTSBURGH PENGUINS CONCLUSION

You cannot help but feel sorry for Shesterkin of the Rangers. He was forced to make 118 saves in the first two games, so he likely just ran out of steam in Game 3. He stopped 11 of the 15 shots he faced in the first period in Game 3 before having his night cut short. Georgiev stopped 19 of the 20 shots he faced, although it's extremely unlikely that the Rangers don't go right back to Shesterkin, the Vezina Trophy favorite.

The Rangers were beaten by journeyman Louis Domingue in Game 3, as he allowed four goals on 36 shots. He can be beaten, and after a two-period rest, Shesterkin should bounce back rather nicely. Take the visitors and the OVER for a solid parlay opportunity.
