CAROLINA HURRICANES vs. BOSTON BRUINS PREDICTIONS

The Hurricanes held serve at home on Tuesday night, blasting the visiting Bruins 5-1 to take a 3-2 series lead. While the B's certainly wouldn't look forward to a return trip to PNC Arena in Raleigh, a place which has been a house of horrors for them, it's better than the alternative, which would be their season ending on Thursday in Boston. The Hurricanes can exorcise some demons and send the Bruins to the handshake line with a victory in Beantown in Game 6.

The home team is a perfect 5-0, and all five games have been decided by two or more goals so far. If you've been betting the favorite, puck line and/or the OVER so far in this series, you've been doing pretty well for yourself. The OVER is now 4-0-1 after Game 5's six-goal performance. We have had a total of 32 goals, or 6.4 combined goals per game in this series so far. Expect a much closer game in Game 6, and perhaps the first overtime game of the series, with the home side forcing a Game 7 in Raleigh for all the marbles.

CAROLINA HURRICANES BETTING ANALYSIS

Straight Up - SU, Against the Spread - ATS, Over-Under (O/U)

  • SU: 57-22-8
  • ATS: 44-43
  • O/U: 41-41-5

The Hurricanes have scored exactly five goals in each of their three games at home so far, outscoring the B's 15-4 in Raleigh. It's been the complete opposite in two games in Boston, with the Bruins outscoring the Hurricanes 9-4. The Canes actually led Game 4 by a 2-1 score, but there was a controversial goaltender interference call, a challenge which didn't go head coach Rod Brind'Amour's way, and a subsequent power-play goal after that.

The Canes have posted nine victories in the past 11 games overall, while going 5-1 in the past six games when posting five or more goals in the previous outing. However, the Canes are 5-16 in the past 21 playoff games as an underdog, while going 1-5 in the past six as a 'dog, and 1-5 in the past six as a road 'dog.

In terms of the totals, the OVER is an impressive 7-0-1 in the past eight games overall for the Hurricanes, while going 4-0-2 in the past six as an underdog, and 4-0-1 in the past five in this series. The OVER is also 18-6-2 in the past 26 games on the road, too.

BOSTON BRUINS BETTING ANALYSIS

Straight Up - SU, Against the Spread - ATS, Over-Under (O/U)

  • SU: 53-29-5
  • ATS: 35-52
  • O/U: 40-39-8

The Bruins have managed to win 39 of the past 57 games at TD Garden, while registering victories in 42 of the past 59 games as a favorite, too. The B's have cashed in 36 of the past 51 as a home fave, too.

For totals, the OVER is 5-0-1 in the past six games overall for the B's, too, and 3-0-2 in the past five playoff games as a favorite. However, the UNDER is 5-1-2 in the past eight games at home, while going 4-1-2 in the past seven as a home fave.

CAROLINA HURRICANES vs. BOSTON BRUINS PREDICTIONS

It's been all about the home team, and all about the OVER so far in this series, with home teams 5-0, and the OVER 4-0-1. However, look for the teams to be a little on the tight side in Game 6, as the Bruins have their backs against the wall, and will be facing elimination, so they won't be taking a lot of chances while risking odd-man rushes the other way. And the Hurricanes won't want to take a lot of risks, cracking the door open for the Bruins to score and force this one back to Raleigh.

Expect a lower-scoring game, something we haven't seen in this series to date, and perhaps even the first overtime game. It's hard to pick against the home team, as they're 5-0 so far in this series, but eventually the road team has to break the trend, right? I'd go lightly on Boston, with more on the UNDER.
