DALLAS STARS vs. CALGARY FLAMES PREDICTIONS

The Stars held a 2-1 series lead heading into Game 4, and it was scoreless midway through the game before Rasmus Andersson struck for the power-play goal to give Calgary the lead. Johnny Gaudreau scored on a penalty-shot goal early in the third, and Elias Lindholm added a goal to make it 3-0 in favor of the road team. Tyler Seguin struck on the power play to ruin the shutout bid of Jacob Markstrom, but the Flames seized the Game 4 win, leveling the series, and grabbing home-ice advantage back with three games left in the series.

The Pacific Division champions have a new lease on life, but you can expect another low-scoring game with hard checking, good defense and strong goaltending, and it will seem like the result could go either way all night. That's been the way of it for the entire series.

DALLAS STARS BETTING ANALYSIS

Straight Up - SU, Against the Spread - ATS, Over-Under (O/U)

  • SU: 48-32-6
  • ATS: 37-49
  • O/U: 36-47-3

The Stars have played four games in this series, notching a total of seven goals, yet they're tied 2-2 in the series. That's how defensive this series has been, and two of the goals have been of the empty-net variety. They've beaten Jacob Markstrom of the Flames just five times. The good news is that Jake Oettinger has been on fire for the Stars, and they're not going away.

The Stars are just 1-4 in the past five games on the road, and 1-4 in the past five as a road underdog, too, but that one win did come in Game 2 in a 2-0 win behind Oettinger. They're also an impressive 5-2 in the past seven during the Quarterfinals Round.

As far as totals, you might expect the UNDER to be trending, and you're right. The UNDER is 4-1-1 in the past six games as an underdog, while going 4-1-1 in the past six playoff games as a 'dog, too. And Dallas tends to bow its back after a blowout loss, as the UNDER is 39-19-2 in the past 60 following a loss of three or more goals.

CALGARY FLAMES BETTING ANALYSIS

Straight Up - SU, Against the Spread - ATS, Over-Under (O/U)

  • SU: 52-23-11
  • ATS: 46-40
  • O/U: 41-38-7

The Flames have managed four victories in the past five games at home, splitting the first two games in this series at Scotiabank Saddledome. Calgary has managed a 32-14 record in the past 46 as a favorite, but its just 5-14 in the past 19 Conference Quarterfinals games.

For totals, the UNDER has hit in five of the past six games, and five of the past six as a favorite, too. The OVER is actually 5-2-1 in the past eight at home, but the UNDER is 2-0 in the two games in Calgary in this series.

Jacob Markstrom has nine regular-season shutouts and the one shutout in Game 1 at home against Dallas. As long as he is running hot, and so is Oettinger, it's all about the UNDER.

DALLAS STARS vs. CALGARY FLAMES CONCLUSION

Markstrom and Oettinger have been in a tremendous dogfight so far in this series, with Markstrom posting a 1.27 GAA with a .952 SV%, while Oettinger has managed a 1.53 GAA with a .960 SV%. Both have one shutout in this series, and it is very close to being two apiece. The scoring has been at a premium, and the UNDER should very well be a perfect 4-for-4 if not for the worst bad beat of the playoff in Game 3 when the Stars had an empty-net goal with 1.0 seconds left from Roope Hintz to flip the UNDER to an OVER at most shops.

Look for the Flames to do well on home ice, but to scratch out a low-scoring game. It wouldn't be shocking to see an overtime game, too, and perhaps one which goes long into the night.
