PITTSBURGH PENGUINS vs. NEW YORK RANGERS PREDICTIONS

The Penguins dominated Games 3 and 4 at home after stealing Game 1 in triple-overtime, and the Pens found themselves up 3-1 in the series. However, the Rangers registered a 5-3 victory on home ice to force the series back to Pittsburgh. In Game 6, the Pens fired out to a quick 2-0 lead, but the Rangers answered with three straight goals, including two of the power-play variety, before Evgeni Malkin answered back. In the third period, Chris Kreider scored with 1:28 to go, while Andrew Copp bagged the empty-net goal to help puck-line bettors to the unbelievable cover.

Mika Zibanejad registered two goals with four points, and he now has eight points in the six-game series. Adam Fox leads the team in the postseason with nine points. Jake Guentzel and Sidney Crosby lead the Pens with nine points apiece, but the latter missed Game 6 due to an upper-body injury and suspected concussion. Not only did the Pens miss Sid the Kid's scoring in Game 6, but they also missed his work at the faceoff dot, as he had won 55.12% (70-of-127) inside the circle.

The Rangers are playing their first Game 7 since 2015, when they fell to the Tampa Bay Lightning in the Eastern Conference Finals. In that same season, the Rangers topped the Washington Capitals in seven in the second round. Prior to the loss to the Lightning, the Rangers had won six consecutive Game 7s, including the second round over the Penguins in 2014 en route to a Stanley Cup Finals appearance against the Los Angeles Kings.

The Penguins haven't played a Game 7 since 2017, when they had a pair of Game 7 victories against the Washington Capitals in the second round, and against the Ottawa Senators in the Eastern Conference Finals en route to a six-game series win in the Stanley Cup Finals over the Nashville Predators. After three straight Game 7 losses from 2010-14, the Pens have won their past three Game 7 appearances.

PITTSBURGH PENGUINS BETTING ANALYSIS

Straight Up - SU, Against the Spread - ATS, Over-Under (O/U)

  • SU: 49-28-11
  • ATS: 43-45
  • O/U: 46-39-3

After building a 3-1 series lead, the Penguins have dropped a pair of 5-3 decisions to fall into a Game 7 situation on the road against the Rangers. Since the Game 1 triple-overtime win in New York, the Pens have lost both trips to MSG by a combined score of 10-5.

The Penguins have won just two of the past nine games on the road, while going 1-5 in the past six as a road 'dog and 3-9 in the past 12 overall as an underdog. They're also 2-5 in the past seven playoff games as a 'dog.

The OVER has cashed in all six games in this series, and seven straight for Pittsburgh. The OVER is also 4-1 in the past five road outings, too.

NEW YORK RANGERS BETTING ANALYSIS

Straight Up - SU, Against the Spread - ATS, Over-Under (O/U)

  • SU: 55-26-7
  • ATS: 45-43
  • O/U: 38-47-3

The Rangers have registered two 5-3 victories to erase a 3-1 series deficit, forcing this winner-take-all event at MSG.

New York has won eight of the past 11 games when playing on a day of rest, while cashing in 29 of the past 42 games at home. It's also a solid 22-9 in the past 31 games as a home favorite, and 11-3 in the past 14 on a Sunday, for whatever that's worth.

Like the Pens, it's all about the OVER for the Blueshirts. The OVER has cashed in five of the past six at home, while going 8-1-2 in the past 11 games as a favorite in the playoffs. The OVER is 5-0 in the previous five when favored, too.

PITTSBURGH PENGUINS vs. NEW YORK RANGERS CONCLUSION

After Game 4, I still believed that the Rangers were the best team, and they have proved they have what it takes to at least come back and force a Game 7. The Rangers have a top-notch goaltender in Igor Shesterkin, and after getting pulled in Games 3 and 4, he actually got the rest he needed to snap back on track. The offense has picked up the pace, too.

In addition, third-stringer Louis Domingue is showing why he was a third-stringer, Sidney Crosby is out, the Pens are also missing Brian Dumoulin (lower body) and Rickard Rakell (concussion), and now Brian Boyle (leg) is also dealing with an injury. The Penguins are a mess, they're banged up, and now it's time to go home.
