COLORADO AVALANCHE vs. ST. LOUIS BLUES PREDICTIONS

The St. Louis Blues seized home-ice advantage from the Colorado Avalanche with a shocking win in Denver in Game 2. The Avalanche seized it right back in Game 3, and it was a game with plenty of storylines.

The Avalanche lost Samuel Girard, a key defenseman, due to a broken sternum. He was taken to the hospital after a crushing hit against the glass and dasher which left his face bloodied, too. While he is now lost for the season, the good news is that he is out of the hospital and he will not need surgery for the injury.

The Blues also lost a key player, and it was controversial. Jordan Binnington was tending net when teammate Calle Rosen and Nazem Kadri were battling near the faceoff circles. The two both fell into the goal, and Rosen appeared to make the most contact with the tendy. He tried to stay in the game, did some stretching for the team's trainer, but he suffered an undisclosed lower-body injury and winced in pain on one of the stretches. It turns out he is done for the season, and in the post-game presser he reportedly threw a water bottle at Kadri in disgust.

Speaking of Kadri, the security has been beefed up at the team's hotel following disgusting racist comments and even death threats via social media. While I am no fan of Kadri, it's awful to see someone take a game so seriously, and to such disgusting levels.

Ville Husso will be the starting netminder, and he was the starter at the beginning of the Minnesota series, and won the job from Binnington during the season. So he is more than capable of handling the No. 1 duties, but it's still quite a blow since Binner was playing better than almost any other goalie in the postseason since taking over.

COLORADO AVALANCHE BETTING ANALYSIS

Straight Up - SU, Against the Spread - ATS, Over-Under (O/U)

  • SU: 62-20-7
  • ATS: 43-46
  • O/U: 46-38-5

The Avs lost a key member of the defensive corps, but Colorado played its best game of the series at Enterprise Center, finally looking like the No. 1 seed in the Western Conference. While it's still a bit surprising that stars Nathan MacKinnon, Cale Makar and Mikko Rantanen have yet to get on the board with a goal in this series, Gabriel Landeskog and Nazem Kadri were able to light the lamp.

Colorado definitely hasn't had a case of the Mondays, going 15-3 in the past 18 games played on the day. It is also 19-9 in the past 28 road games, and 5-2 in the past seven as a road favorite, while going 23-9 in the past 32 playoff games when favored.

For totals, the OVER is 14-6-1 in the past 21 Western Conference Semifinal Round games, while going 17-8 in the past 25 playoff games as a favorite. The OVER is 4-0 in the past four visits to St. Louis, while going 7-2 in the previous nine meetings overall between these teams.

  • SU: 54-26-11
  • ATS: 53-38
  • O/U: 47-39-5

The Blues will have to bounce back after losing their starting goaltender, who saved their bacon in the Minnesota series. Husso is a No. 1A goalie, though, and they don't lose much going back to him. In fact, he might have a bit of a chip on his shoulder, looking to prove himself yet again.

The Blues have won 17 of the past 24 games overall, while going 8-3 in the past 11 games at home. They Blues are also 7-1 in the past eight games played on a Monday, so they don't have a case of the Mondays, either.

For totals, the OVER is 23-11-1 in the past 35 games overall, while going 7-3 in the past 10 playoff games as an underdog. They're also 23-8-2 in the past 33 games as a home 'dog.

COLORADO AVALANCHE vs. ST. LOUIS BLUES BETTING CONCLUSION

The Avalanche didn't play well in the series opener, outlasting the Blues 3-2 in overtime in Denver. In the second game, the Blues turned the tables and posted the road win, keeping the big dogs of the Avalanche down. Colorado played its best game of the series in Game 3, seizing back home-ice advantage, and all of the momentum. And, to make matters worse, Colorado knocked the starting goaltender out of the series for St. Louis. Look for the Avalanche to step on the gas and really dash the hopes of the Blues, sending this back to the Mile High City with the Avs leading 3-1 in the series.
