NEW YORK RANGERS vs. CAROLINA HURRICANES PREDICTIONS

The Rangers buried the Hurricanes early in Game 6 on Saturday, forcing this decisive Game 7 back in North Carolina. New York got an unassisted goal from Tyler Motte just 7:22 into the game, and Mika Zibanejad notched a marker on the power play less than three minutes later. Early in the second, Filip Chytil picked up another goal just 3:24 into the period, and that was enough for head coach Rod Brind'Amour. Antti Raanta just didn't have it, so rookie goaltender Pyotr Kochetkov was summoned. The rookie allowed two goals on 12 shots he faced, while Raanta stopped 10 of the 13 shots he faced. It's likely RBA goes back to Raanta for Game 7.

Igor Shesterkin certainly had it. He allowed just two goals on 39 shots in Game 6, carrying the Rangers in an elimination game yet again. New York is now 4-0 in these playoffs in elimination games, although this Game 7 will be on road ice, now the friendly confines of Madison Square Garden.

Carolina has rolled up a 7-0 record at home with a plus-17 goal differential, while it is 0-6 with a minus-16 goal differential on the road. It's a good thing Monday's game is at home, but will their good fortune at home finally come to an end?

Straight Up - SU, Against the Spread - ATS, Over-Under (O/U)

  • SU: 59-28-8
  • ATS: 49-46
  • O/U: 40-52-3

The Rangers busted out the whooping stick in Game 6, tying a best for this postseason with five goals. The Rangers also dropped five goals on the Penguins in Games 2, 5 and 6. However, New York is just 1-5 across six road outings, last losing 3-1 at PNC Arena in Game 5 with Raanta outdueling Shesterkin.

New York has picked up victories in six of the past eight games when playing on one day of rest. They're just 1-6 in the past seven on the road, and 0-6 in the previous six as an underdog, while failing to cash in each of the past five as a road 'dog.

For totals, the UNDER is 5-1 in the past six games overall, while going 7-1 in the past eight as a road underdog, and 7-1-1 in the past nine playoff games as a 'dog. The UNDER is also 5-1 in the past six Conference Semifinal Round games.

CAROLINA HURRICANES BETTING ANALYSIS

Straight Up - SU, Against the Spread - ATS, Over-Under (O/U)

  • SU: 61-26-8
  • ATS: 46-49
  • O/U: 43-47-5

The Hurricanes have been fire on home ice, going a perfect 7-0 so far in these playoffs, while going 45-16 in the past 61 games overall at PNC Arena. They're also 44-14 in the past 58 when favored at home.

Carolina hasn't had a case of the Mondays, either, winning each of its past four appearances on the day. In the Conference Semifinals Round, the Canes have won eight of the previous 11 games, and Carolina is 28-8 in the past 36 playoff games when favored.

On totals, the UNDER has hit in each of the past four games at home for the Canes, while going 4-0 in the past four as a home favorite, too. The UNDER is 6-1 in the past seven games overall, too.

NEW YORK RANGERS vs. CAROLINA HURRICANES CONCLUSION

Carolina won a Game 7 in the first round against the Bruins, and the Hurricanes are 6-0 all-time in Game 7s since relocating from Hartford to Raleigh in 1997. That includes a Game 7 victory on home ice against the Edmonton Oilers in 2006 during the Stanley Cup Finals.

New York also won a Game 7 against the Penguins in the opening round, and it is 7-1 in the past eight Game 7 opportunities, with the lone loss coming in 2015 against the Tampa Bay Lightning, the team which awaits the winner of this outing.

The Rangers have dropped all three games at PNC Arena so far in this Conference Semifinals Round, getting outscored 7-2. The Hurricanes have been dominant defensively, and in the goal, while not taking bad penalties. However, Carolina hasn't really lit it up on offense, so New York has a more than good chance to finally break that home dominance of the Hurricanes.

The crowd will be at full throat, and PNC Arena can be an absolutely wild experience when the Hurricanes are rolling in the postseason. For the Rangers to have any kind of chance, it needs to jump all over the Canes early to nail the fans to their seats. If Carolina gets the first goal, especially early, creating a fan frenzy, New York will be in trouble. The first goal in this one is ultra important.

There is some doubt about the Carolina offense, and after Raanta was pulled in Game 6, there is some concern there, too. But it's hard to bet against the Hurricanes on home ice, and they should be able to eke out a win, and advance to face the Lightning in the Eastern Conference Finals.
