Liverpool vs Crystal Palace Predictions, Odds and Betting Picks

Introduction

This has to be one of the happiest match-ups to end a season in Premier League history. FA Cup underdog winners, Crystal Palace, will hand Liverpool a guard of honour before kick-off on Sunday. We should expect a party atmosphere at Anfield as the Reds celebrate a league title in front of their supporters for the first time since 1990.

Crystal Palace's jubilant away support saw them lift the club's first-ever significant honour just eight days before kick-off. Contrastingly, on Sunday, there's not much to play for. There will be no jostling for European qualification or looking over shoulders to avoid relegation. Instead, we might simply see both sets of players and fans enjoy the occasion on Merseyside for the afternoon.

Analysis of the Match

The season finale at Anfield will serve as a preview of the 2025/26 campaign, as the winners of England’s two major trophies—the Premier League and the FA Cup—are set to clash in the Community Shield, the traditional curtain-raiser at Wembley.

While Crystal Palace defied the odds to claim their first-ever major trophy by defeating Aston Villa in the semi-final and Manchester City last Saturday, Liverpool have been unstoppable in the league since the autumn. The Reds’ second Premier League title is truly deserved; they are the first team outside Manchester City to lead the league in expected points since 2015/16. In a season where fellow contenders such as Arsenal, hindered by 14 draws, and Manchester City, scoring 26 goals fewer than in 2023/24, have faltered, Arne Slot’s side has shown remarkable consistency and resilience.

Liverpool lost just once in their first 30 Premier League matches (1-0 at home to Nottingham Forest) and have only slightly eased off since securing the title mathematically.

After they were crowned champions, Liverpool conceded eight goals with an xGA of 7.89, nearly matching the totals from their previous 10 games (nine goals conceded and an xGA of 8.48). Should they fail to win on Sunday, they will record the second-lowest points tally for English champions in the last 14 seasons (behind Leicester's 81 points in 2015/16). These figures, however, don't accurately reflect the dominance of Mohamed Salah and his teammates throughout the campaign.

As for Crystal Palace, after a challenging start with only one win in their first 12 matches, they have discovered the best system to harness their talented attacking trio.

Unbeaten in their last seven games across all competitions, scoring 13 goals and achieving positive results against Arsenal, Aston Villa and Nottingham Forest, Oliver Glasner's side is arguably one of the most threatening outfits currently.

They will likely look to replicate their Wembley success, absorbing pressure and striking on the counter-attack, as they seek another notable victory in what has already been a historic campaign.

Liverpool Analysis and Form

Liverpool have already wrapped up the Premier League title, and their form since doing so suggests the celebrations may have started early. The Reds are winless in their last three league games, and have conceded eight goals in that span.

Despite the slump, there is little concern around Anfield. Slot’s men did just enough to earn their crown, as they have been consistent throughout the season, while their rivals faltered. Mohamed Salah, once chasing records, has slowed down, as he always does near the end of the season, despite a strong underlying xG and xA output.

Their recent defeat to Brighton offered glimpses of intensity, but a lack of edge in both boxes proved costly. With the title already secured and no major milestones left to chase, Liverpool might once again rotate or approach Sunday’s finale with a festive, low-pressure mindset.

Crystal Palace Analysis and Form

Crystal Palace head into the final day as one of the top form teams in the division, unbeaten in their last seven across all competitions. That stretch includes three draws and four wins, with the most memorable being their stunning FA Cup triumph over Manchester City, a history victory for the club and Oliver Glasner.

Confidence is high, and the Eagles are now eyeing a place in the Premier League’s top 10 to cap off a remarkable run-in. However, the question is whether the team will be in a more relaxed mood.

Their recent league form has been just as strong, with a five-game streak that includes two convincing wins and three hard-fought draws. Over that period, they’ve scored nine and conceded five, showing stability on both ends of the field.

A trip to Anfield might normally seem daunting, but Palace have taken points on their last two visits and will be sensing an opportunity against a Liverpool side already in celebration mode.

Head to Head

There’s just something about Crystal Palace for Liverpool. The Eagles built a formidable reputation as the Reds’ bogey team. ‘Crystanbul’ - the 3-3 draw between the sides in May 2014 which cost Liverpool the Premier League title - was just one part of a series of shock results.

Between 2003 and April 2017, Palace won seven and drew two of their 16 matches with Liverpool in all competitions. The Reds took it personally and won 12 of the 15 fixtures that followed, including the reverse match at Selhurst Park back in October.

But Palace will be quietly confident here. Liverpool’s results have dropped off since lifting the Premier League trophy, while the Eagles arrive in good form. They’ve won four of their last five in all competitions - including that 1-0 win over Manchester City in the FA Cup final last weekend. Palace also won this fixture 1-0 last season courtesy of a goal from Eberechi Eze.

The margins are usually tight in this fixture. The last six league meetings between the two clubs have all been settled by a single goal. Both teams have scored in just one of the four most recent head-to-heads.

Team News and Predicted Lineups

Liverpool Predicted Lineup: Allison; Bradley, van Dijk, Quansah, Robertson; Gravenberch, Endo; Szoboszlai; Salah, Jota, Diaz

Crystal Palace Predicted Lineup: Henderson; Munoz, Lerma, Lacroix, Mitchell; Hughes, Kamada; Sarr, Mateta, Eze

The big team news story for Liverpool is one of selection rather than injury or suspension. It’s the final match for key man Trent Alexander-Arnold before he heads to Real Madrid. He hasn’t started either of Liverpool’s last two matches. His stand-in, Connor Bradley should deputise while his successor, Jeremie Frimpong, waits in the wings to join from Bayer Leverkusen.

Things are a bit trickier for Palace boss Oliver Glasner. He will be without a couple of the key players who helped Crystal Palace get over the line in the FA Cup. Marc Guehi and Adam Wharton will both miss out.

Guehi was sent to the hospital for tests on a facial injury shortly after lifting the FA Cup trophy. His Palace and England teammate Adam Wharton joined him to receive tests for a concussion. Both players were cleared but are expected to miss the Liverpool match.
