Belgium vs. Italy Picks & Predictions

Belgium’s ageing side looked dead on their feet at full-time of their win against Portugal, and there is a sense that they are not peaking at the right time. They looked like a side creaking towards the end, and Italy are rightful favorites to win this tie.

They can hurt Belgium’s slow defense in a number of ways and all their players are used to dealing with sides that play Belgium’s 3-4-3, a common formation in Italy. If Chiesa starts he is a very tempting bet to score first at 17/2.

Score Prediction: Italy 2 Belgium 0

Betting Odds - Belgium vs. Italy

Italy are the favorites to win what is probably the highest quality clash of the quarter-finals. They are 11/8 to win in 90 minutes and 4/6 to qualify. Belgium are 23/10 to win and 11/10 to qualify while a draw is very short at 2/1. Over 2.5 goals is 11/8 with the under at 4/7.

Belgium Betting Outlook

Both these teams were very good in the group stages, winning all three matches, but were given major tests in the round of 16. Belgium squeezed past Portugal 1-0, but they were outshot 23-6. Thorgan Hazard’s long range strike at the end of a rather boring first half was their only shot on target.

Late in the game their two key creators, Kevin de Bruyne and Eden Hazard, went off with injury. Both are doubts for Friday’s game and that is why Italy have shortened up in the betting since the tie was confirmed. Without them Romelu Lukaku is easily their main attacking weapon. He has scored three at the tournament so far.

Italy Betting Outlook

Italy were given their first real scare by Austria, who held them to a 0-0 draw after 90 minutes at Wembley before Italy prevailed 2-1 in extra time. Austria could easily have gone through, but they had a late goal ruled out by VAR.

Italy’s strength from the bench was the telling factor, with substitutes Federico Chiesa and Matteo Pessina scoring the goals. Chiesa has been a constant threat as a substitute and is likely to be given a deserved start. It was Pessina’s second goal of the tournament, while Ciro Immobile and Manuel Locatelli have also netted twice.
