The defending WNBA champion Chicago Sky will host the Las Vegas Aces in the second annual Commissioner’s Cup Championship on Tuesday night. Tip off is slated for 8:30 p.m. ET from Wintrust Arena. Coverage will be nationally televised on Prime Video. 

The Commissioner’s Cup is an in-season competition which featured 61 contests. The prize is $500,000 along with an extra $165,000 for charitable and civic organizations. The Sky and Aces are in the championship by virtue of having the best records in each conference. The Sky will represent My Block while the Aces will play for ACLU Nevada.

The Aces are coming off an 84-66 victory vs. the visiting Los Angeles Sparks on July 23. Kelsey Plum guided the Aces with 29 points and five rebounds. A’ja Wilson recorded 24 points, six rebounds, four assists, two steals and two blocks. 

In their last outing, the New York Liberty edged the visiting Sky 83-80. This snapped a six-game winning streak for the Sky. Sabrina Ionescu converted a 3-point play with 9.7 seconds in the game-deciding moment. Candace Parker paced the Sky with 21 points, 11 rebounds and two steals. Kahleah Copper added 17 points and seven rebounds. 

Prior to the Commissioner’s Cup Championship, the Aces had a 20-8 record, while the Sky led the league at 21-7. 

The Aces have five players averaging double digits in points. Plum is second in the WNBA at 20.1 points per game. Wilson is fifth in the league in points (19.4), tied for first in the league in rebounds (9.7) and second in blocks (2.1). Gray is fourth in the WNBA with 6.1 assists and also second in steals (1.8). 

As of July 25, the Aces led the league in points per game (90.4) and three-point percentage (35.9), and are fourth in field goal percentage (45.4). Defensively, the Aces are first in defensive rebounds (29.2), points off turnovers (13.1), and second-chance points (8.3), as well as sixth in defensive rating (101.3). 

The potent Sky offense has six players that average double digits in points. Copper leads the Sky with 14.8 points along with 5.7 rebounds. Future Hall of Fame member Parker is second in points (13.6) and tops in rebounds (8.9) and blocks (1.0). Courtney Vandersloot averages 10.8 points and a team-best 6.2 assists. Rebekah Gardner leads the Sky with 1.5 steals per game. 

As of July 25, the Sky led the league in field goal percentage (47.6) while being second in points (85.6) and sixth in three-point percentage (34.7). Defensively, the Sky rank third in blocks (4.5), as well as fifth in defensive rating (98.0) and fastbreak points (9.2). 

The Sky is favored by 3.0 points vs. the Aces in the Commissioner’s Cup Championship. The over/under is set for 170.0 points. 

The Sky should capture the cup with a close victory over the Aces in what could be a preview of the WNBA Finals.
