The San Francisco Giants will resume play after the All-Star break with the opener of a four-game road series at the NL West rival Los Angeles Dodgers. First pitch is slated for 10 p.m. ET from Dodger Stadium. Coverage will be nationally televised on ESPN. 

Left-handed pitcher Carlos Rodon will take the mound for the Giants. Rodon is 8-5 with an ERA of 2.66. The Dodgers will send Mitch White to the hill. White is 1-2 with an ERA of 4.20 The Giants are coming off taking three out of four from the visiting Milwaukee Brewers. The Dodgers most recently swept a pair from the Los Angeles Angels in interleague play.

As of July 20, the Dodgers are atop the NL West, while the Giants are third in the standings. The Dodgers have a sizable 12.5 games lead over the Giants in the division. The Giants are 4-1 in their last five contests. The Dodgers are also 4-1 in their last five games. 

Before July 21, the Giants ranked fourth in RBI (419), seventh in on-base percentage (.322), 10th in home runs (111),  11th in slugging percentage (.403) and 21st in batting average (.238). Third baseman Wilmer Flores leads the Giants in RBI (51) and hits (74). Second baseman Thairo Estrada has the best batting average (.259). Left fielder Joc Pederson is tops in home runs (17). First baseman Darin Ruf is the leader in on-base percentage (.336). 

Prior to July 21, the Dodgers ranked first in on-base percentage (.333), second in RBI (437), third in slugging percentage (.437), fifth in batting average (.255), and tied for seventh in home runs (117). First baseman Freddie Freeman leads the Dodgers in batting average (.321), on-base percentage (.397), and hits (114). Right fielder Mookie Betts has a team-best 20 home runs along with 47 RBI. Shortstop Trea Turner has the most RBI (68) and stolen bases (17). 

For pitching, the Giants ranked ninth in ERA (3.74), 17th in WHIP (1.27), and 22nd in batting average (.251). Meanwhile, the Dodgers are first in ERA (2.96) and WHIP (1.07) and third in batting average (.217). 

The Giants are 46-45 against the spread overall and 25-18 against the spread on the road. For over/under, the Giants are 44-42-5 overall and 21-21-1 on the road. 

The Dodgers are 53-37 against the spread overall and 25-18 against the spread at home. In terms of over/under, the Dodgers are 35-48-7 overall and 18-22-3 at home. 

The Giants have taken three of the first five matchups this season against the Dodgers. The Dodgers swept a two-game set in Los Angeles from May 3-4. The next series between the teams after this will be Aug. 1-4 in San Francisco. 

The Giants should continue their winning ways over their in-state rival with a tight victory in the series opener.
