It’ll be a pitching matchup between a pair of righties. Alex Cobb will start for the Giants. Mitch Keller is taking the mound for the Pirates. Cobb has a 3-2 record with a 5.73 ERA. Keller is 2-5 with an ERA of 5.07.

As of June 18, the Giants are third place in the NL West. Meanwhile, the Pirates are third place in the NL Central. 

Prior to the series, the Giants won the last five of six games at home vs. the Los Angeles Dodgers and Kansas City Royals. As for the Pirates, they dropped nine of 10 games at home vs  Detroit Tigers and on the road vs. the defending World Series champion Atlanta Braves and St. Louis Cardinals. 

Cobb has allowed 44 hits, 12 walks, and three home runs, while tallying 47 strikeouts. Keller has given up 59 hits, 23 walks, and six home runs, along with 46 strikeouts. 

In his last outing on May 29, Cobb pitched six innings and allowed two earned runs and four hits with eight strikeouts at the Cincinnati Reds. In Keller’s last game at the St. Louis Cardinals on June 13, he went 5.1 innings while allowing two earned runs and seven hits. 

In the last series between the teams, the Pirates took two of three games vs. the Giants from May 14-16, 2021. 

Going into June 18, the Giants tied for eighth in RBI (291),  while ranking ninth in on-base percentage (.321), 10th in home runs (75), 12th in slugging percentage (.400) and 20th in batting average (.238). Right fielder Mike Yastrzemski leads the Giants in batting average (.270) and on-base percentage (.379). Left fielder Joc Pederson is first in home runs (14) and tied for first in RBI (34) on the Giants. 

As of June 18, the struggling Pirates offense ranks 28th in on-base percentage (.288), tied for 23rd in home runs (55), 28th in slugging percentage (.350) and RBI (197) and 29th in batting average (.218). Third baseman Ke’Bryan Hayes leads the Pirates in hits (59), batting average (.272) and on-base percentage (.354). Left fielder Bryan Reynolds is first in home runs (11) in second in RBI (21) and hits (57). 

Prior to the June 18th contest, the Giants were 36-27 SU and 33-30 overall against the spread. The Giants were 17-13 against the spread on the road. For over/under, the Giants were 30-29-4 overall and 14-15-1 on the road. 

Leading up to June 18th, the Pirates were 25-38 SU and 28-35 overall against the spread. The Pirates were 14-17 against the spread at home. Regarding over/under, the Pirates were 24-33-6 overall and 11-17-3 at home. 

This game will be competitive and feature plenty of offense. The Giants will earn the victory before heading into their road series at the Braves.
