The top two National League East teams will meet right before the All-Star break starts on July 18.

The New York Mets split four games with the Miami Marlins but still find themselves with a 53-33 record and in first place in the division. The Atlanta Braves swept the Washington Nationals this past weekend, but the last two games in the series were not easy. They won two straight games by a score of 4-3, and the second of those games needed a run in the bottom of the 8th to push the game into extras.

This will be an intriguing pitching matchup, as two aces faces off against each other in Max Scherzer and Max Fried. Both pitchers come into this matchup with a 2.52 ERA or lower, but Fried has had the longer season as he cracked 100 innings played. Scherzer spent some time on the injured list and has played just 55.2 innings.

Fried has struck out 100 batters, but Scherzer, who has almost 52 less innings under his belt, has struck out 70. In eight of his last nine starts, Fried has allowed two earned runs or fewer. In those eight starts, he has allowed nine runs spanning a whopping 52.2 innings.

Scherzer has just nine starts this season, but in six of those, he has not allowed more than one earned run. In his first start since May, Scherzer pitched six innings, allowing just two hits, no earned runs, and 11 strikeouts vs. the Reds. His pitch count reached just 79, as he was on a limit coming back from injury. We can see Buck Showalter stretching him just a bit in this one but still holding him back a little bit with the inevitable break coming up.
