The Jacksonville Jaguars will clash with the host Los Angeles Chargers in a Week 3 matchup. Kickoff is slated for 4:05 p.m. ET from SoFi Stadium. Coverage will be televised on CBS. 

The Jaguars notched their first win of the season last week with a 24-0 shutout victory vs. the visiting Indianapolis Colts. Jaguars quarterback Trevor Lawrence completed 25 of his 30 passes for 235 yards, two touchdowns, and no interceptions. Lawrence tossed both of his touchdowns to Christian Kirk. The Jaguars’ defense held the Colts to 218 total yards and 2-for-10 on third down attempts.

The host Kansas City Chiefs edged the Chargers 27-24 in Week 2. The Chargers led 17-7 in the third quarter but the Chiefs scored 20 straight points to seal the victory.

Chargers quarterback Justin Herbert went 33-for-48 with three touchdowns and one interception. Chargers wide receiver Mike Williams caught eight receptions for a game-high 113 yards as well as a touchdown. The Chargers lost despite outgaining the Chiefs in total yards (401 to 309). The Chargers also converted 3-of-5 in the red zone, compared to 1-of-3 for the Chiefs. 

The Jaguars’ offense ranks 12th in points per game (23.0) and passing yards (247.5), as well as 17th in rushing yards (109.5). Lawrence has a passer rating of 96.4 and has been sacked twice. Kirk is the Jaguars’ top receiver with 12 receptions for 195 yards, two touchdowns, and eight first downs. Zay Jones has caught nine passes for 88 yards and five first downs. James Robinson anchors the Jaguars’ rushing attack with 130 yards, two touchdowns, and eight first downs on 34 carries. 

Defensively, the Jaguars rank fifth in points per game allowed (14.0). Linebacker Devin Lloyd leads the Jaguars with 17 tackles and also has an interception. Linebacker Josh Allen is tops for the Jaguars with two sacks and two forced fumbles. Linebacker Foyesade Oluokun is second on the Jaguars with 14 tackles and has a fumble recovery. Safety Andre Cisco has tallied 11 tackles and an interception. 

The Chargers’ offense ranks fourth in passing yards (302.5), 11th in points per game (24.0), and tied for 28th in rushing yards (75.5). Herbert has a passer rating of 112.5 and has been sacked two times. 

Williams is Herbert’s favorite target with 10 receptions for 123 yards, a touchdown, and four first downs. Tight end Gerald Everett has nine receptions for 125 yards, a touchdown, and four first downs. Wide receiver DeAndre Carter has recorded seven receptions for 119 yards, a touchdown, and six first downs. Running back Austin Ekeler leads the Chargers with 75 yards and four first downs on the ground, while also tallying 13 receptions for 91 yards and five first downs. 

Defensively, the Chargers rank tied for 11th in points per game allowed (23.0). Safety Derwin James Jr. leads the Chargers with 15 tackles and also has a sack. Linebacker Khalil Mack has notched eight tackles, a team-high four sacks, and a forced fumble. Linebacker Drue Tranquill is second on the Chargers with 12 tackles and also has an interception. Cornerbacks Bryce Callahan and Asante Samuel Jr. each have an interception. 

As of Sept. 23, there’s no players listed on the injury report for the Jaguars. Meanwhile, the four key players on the injury list for the Chargers (all listed questionable) are Herbert, wide receiver Keenan Allen, cornerback J.C. Jackson, and tight end Donald Parham Jr. 

The Chargers are favored by seven points against the Jaguars. For the money line, it’s Jaguars -+230 and Chargers -300. The over/under is set for 47 points. Figure on the over in a shootout between two young quarterbacks. 

The Jaguars will hang tough to cover the spread but the Chargers will prevail with the victory.
