The defending Super Bowl champion Los Angeles Rams will square off with the host San Francisco 49ers on Monday Night Football in an NFC West showdown. Kickoff is slated for 8:15 p.m. ET from Levi’s Stadium.  

The Rams (2-1) defeated the host Arizona Cardinals 20-12 last week. The Rams jumped out to a 13-0 lead in the second quarter on a 20-yard rushing touchdown by Cooper Kupp and two field goals by Matt Gay. After the Cardinals cut the deficit to 13-9, Cam Akers rushed for a 14-yard touchdown with a minute left in the third quarter. Rams quarterback Matthew Stafford went 18-for-25 with 249 yards, no touchdowns, and no interceptions.

The 49ers (1-2) were narrowly defeated 11-10 by the host Denver Broncos in Week 3. Melvin Gordon III’s one-yard rushing touchdown with 4:10 left was the difference. The lone touchdown for the 49ers came in the first quarter when Jimmy Garoppolo connected with Brandon Aiyuk for a three-yard score. Garoppolo completed 18 of his 29 passes for 211 yards, one touchdown, and one interception. The 49ers defense held the Broncos’ offense to nine three-and-outs and 3.7 yards per play. 

This is a rematch of last season’s NFC title game that the Rams won 20-17. 

The Rams’ offense ranks 15th in points per game (20.3), 17th in passing yards (234.0), and 30th in rushing yards (72.3). Stafford has a passer rating of 86.3 and has been sacked nine times. Kupp is tops for the Rams with 28 receptions for 280 yards with three touchdowns and 17 first downs. Tight end Tyler Higbee has 16 receptions for 171 yards and nine first downs. The Rams are interchanging on the ground between Darrell Henderson Jr. (111 yards, one touchdown, six first downs) and Akers (105 yards, one touchdown, five first downs). 

Defensively, the Rams allow 23.3 points per game. Linebacker Ernest Jones leads the Rams with 24 tackles along with a forced fumble. Linebacker Bobby Wagner has 23 tackles and is tied for a team-high two sacks. Defensive tackle Aaron Donald has collected 10 tackles, two sacks, and a fumble recovery. Cornerback Jalen Ramsey has recorded 16 tackles, an interception, and four pass deflections. 

The 49ers’ offense ranks sixth in rushing yards (151.0), tied for 28th in points per game (15.7), and 29th in passing yards (172.7). Quarterback Trey Lance was averaging 6.3 yards per completion with a quarterback rating of 55.0 before his season-ending injury. Garoppolo  has passed for 365 yards, two touchdowns, and one interception in place of Lance. The versatile Deebo Samuel has caught 12 passes for 131 yards, and five first downs, while rushing for 111 yards on 17 carries with a touchdown and four first downs.Aiyuk has 10 catches for 142 yards, a touchdown, and seven first downs. 

Defensively, the 49ers have allowed 12.3 points per game. Linebacker Dre Greenlaw leads the 49ers with 23 tackles, along with two tackles for loss.Safety Talanoa Hufanga has 21 tackles, four tackles for loss, three pass deflections, and an interception. Bosa has 11 tackles and a team-best four sacks. Linebacker Azeez Al-Shaair has recorded 11 tackles. Cornerback Charvarius Ward has amassed 18 tackles, an interception, and a forced fumble. 

Five notable players are listed questionable on the 49ers’ injury report as of Sept. 29: wide receiver Danny Gray, defensive tackle Javon Kinlaw, safety Tarvarius Moore, tight end Ross Dwelley, and defensive end Arik Armstead. 

Five key players from the Rams currently marked as questionable on the injury report are center Brian Allen, cornerback Cobie Durant, cornerback David Long Jr., safety Jordan Fuller, and cornerback Derion Kendrick. 

The 49ers are favored by 1.5 points against the Rams. For the money line, it’s Rams +104 and 49ers -122. The over/under is set for 42.5 points. In a matchup between rivals, defense will rule and the under will occur. 

The 49ers will battle to cover the spread but the Rams will get the victory in the California clash.
