What’s Going On?
There are two Monday Night Football games on the slate this week, and a battle of division leaders is on tap in the latter one. Fans of both the Vikings and Eagles probably don’t care that you could say that about quite a few teams when they’ve only played once.
Since winning Super Bowl LII, Philadelphia is 32-33-1 but has been knocked out of the playoffs in their first game in three of the four seasons since. The Vikings signed Kirk Cousins to the largest guaranteed contract in 2018, and his record in Minnesota is 34-31-1 with one playoff appearance.
Those both seem like average records, but there’s nothing mediocre about the FanDuel deal that you’re getting to bet this game. When you open a brand-new sports betting account with FanDuel, you get a No Sweat First Bet of up to $1,000. The visitors are getting 2.5 points and are +116 on the money line. It’s -136 if you take this home team without laying any points, and the total is 50 ½.
Why Should You Care?
Illegal bookmakers continue to thrive even in states where legal sports betting has become the norm. One of the reasons that some gamblers prefer working with a local book is the disbursement schedule. You can get credit with your local tote that works out of a neighborhood bar. Usually, you pay on Tuesday if you lose and get your winnings on Wednesdays. Try losing a g-note with one of those guys and see if you’ll get up to $1,000 in free bets when you lose.
We don’t usually get two games on Monday night this late in the season. That sure does give you an opportunity to either save your week or win even more money. This one is the last game of the week, and sometimes that’s all it takes for an NFL bettor to want some action. Both these teams are coming off opening-week wins, and that’s always a great boost for a team’s morale.
How Much Weight Do You Give To That Vikings Win Over Green Bay?
Playing the Packers opening week has worked out well for teams that have seen Green Bay at the beginning of their schedule. In the last two years, the Pack has scored a total of 10 points in those two starts. Last week, on the road, was the ninth time in their last eleven games overall where the Vikes put up at least 23 points. At home last year they scored 24 or more in the first seven games of the season.
Minnesota had one of the worst defenses in the league last season. They opened the year allowing 24 or more in their first seven road games of the year and currently are on a run where nine of their last eleven games on the road have gone over the total.
Does A Win Over The Lions Improve Your Opinion Of The Eagles?
Philadelphia may have just hung on in last week’s victory in Detroit, but they scored 38 points, and when you see that number on a scoreboard it usually involves a win. They finished last season scoring 26 or more in seven of their last nine games. It was the same story at Lincoln Financial Field where they finished last year scoring 24 or more in six of their last seven.
The Eagles’ defense finished in the Top 10 last season, so seeing that Lions score may have surprised some fans, but this is a squad that has allowed some huge games over the last season and a week. They gave up those 35 to Detroit last week and allowed 27 or more in almost half their games last season, including 40 or more three times.
