Why Should You Care?

Sometimes a play will jump right off of your handicapping sheets. When that wager also comes risk-free, it’s time to pay attention. That’s what tonight’s Chicago Cubs at St. Louis Cardinals game offers.

It’ll be a long summer for Cubs fans waiting around for the Bears to start losing too. This game has them at +145 and -135 getting that run and a half. The Cardinals are -175 but that drops to +115 if you’re laying the 1 ½ runs. Tonight’s total is 8 and it’s -110 either way.

How Have The Cubs Lost So Many Games?

Chicago ended last season exactly where they stand today, 20 games under .500. When you’re bad on the road it’s one thing and these Cubbies are 21-28 away from Wrigley. Playing at home hasn’t helped that much though since they’re even worse at home, going 20-32.

They came out of the All-Star break on fire, sweeping three from Philly and outscoring them 25-7 in the process. Then they took two from the Pirates allowing only four runs. Since then, they’ve lost four of their last five and are coming off getting shutout in back-to-back games. They’ve gone eight straight with scoring four or less and, not surprisingly, are on a 7-1 under run.

Justin Steele goes for the visitors. His record is 4-7 with an ERA of 3.86 and a 1.43 WHIP. In his last start, he didn’t make it out of the 3rd but all 4 of the runs he gave up were unearned. The four starts before that all went at least five totaling 22.2 innings allowing 18 hits with 12 walks and 6 earned runs. Steele pitched against the Cards nine starts back and went 7 in an ND, giving up 7 hits and 3 bases on balls but only permitting one earned run.

Can These Cards Make A Playoff Run?

St. Louis is currently sitting right outside that final wild-card spot. Their season after the break started with an eight-game road trip where they went 4-4. They also took game one of this series and are  pounding the ball, scoring 5 or more in 5 straight and 9 of their last 11

Miles Mikolas will be on the hill for the home team. He’s 8-8 on the season with an ERA of 2.86 and a .99 WHIP. His last two starts were both on the road where he went 12 innings allowing 13 hits with 3 walks and 8 earned runs. He pitched against the Cubs at home 7 starts back and went 6 innings in an ND giving up 4 hits and 1 walk with just a solo earned run. In his last 4 starts at home, he’s thrown 30 innings with only 14 hits and 3 walks allowing just 3 earned. The combined score in those outings was 31-8 in his favor.

This Is A Great Spot To Open A Fubo Account!

The home team is in the middle of a playoff race while the visitors aren’t close. Mikolas seems to be in a groove pitching at Busch Stadium. Having a .99 WHIP more than halfway through the season is pretty good. In those last four appearances, it’s closer to .56. It’s hard to win a baseball game when your only get five men on base the entire game.
