Going into the series, the Mariners were second-to-last in the AL West. Meanwhile, the Angels were one spot ahead at third in the division.

Before this series, the Angels dropped two of three games from the visiting Kansas City Royals. The Angels are 3-2 in their last five contests. 

Gilbert has allowed 63 hits, 23 walks, and six home runs, while amassing 82 strikeouts. The Mariners have won four of the last five outings by GIlbert. Sandoval has given up 51 hits, 28 walks, and two home runs, in addition to throwing 59 strikeouts. The Angels are 2-3 in the last five contests that Sandoval has pitched. 

In his last outing on June 19, Gilbert allowed two earned runs, four hits, and a home run with no walks in six innings vs. the Angels. In Sandoval’s last game vs. the Mariners on June 18, he gave up one earned run, four hits and two walks in six innings. 

The Angels took four out of five vs. the Mariners at home from June 16-19 in the last series between the teams. 

Heading into the series, the Mariners ranked 14th in on-base percentage (.318), 15th in home runs (75),  22nd in slugging percentage (.380) and 23rd in batting average (.233) and RBI (272). Third baseman Ty France leads the Mariners in batting average (.316), RBI (45), on-base percentage (.390), and hits (87). Third baseman Eugenio Suarez is tops for the Mariners in home runs (13) and second in RBI (36). 

Prior to the set, the Angels ranked seventh in home runs (88), 14th in slugging percentage (.401) and RBI (297), 20th in batting average (.238) and 22nd in on-base percentage (.306). Future Hall of Fame center fielder Mike Trout leads the Angels in batting average (.284), home runs (21), and on-base percentage (.385). Generational two-way talent Shohei Ohtani is tops for the Angels in RBI (45) and hits (69), while being second in home runs (15). 

Prior to the series, the Mariners were 35-36 overall against the spread and 19-19 against the spread on the road. For over/under, the Mariners are 33-36-2 overall and 20-18 on the road. 

Before the set, the Angels were 35-37 overall against the spread and 18-20 against the spread at home. Regarding over/under, the Angels were 32-37-3 overall and 15-21-2 at home. 

The Angels will earn a close victory before heading into the series finale.
