The Kansas City Royals will face the host Detroit Tigers on Sunday afternoon in the series finale of a three-game set. First pitch is slated for 12:05 p.m. ET from Comerica Park. Coverage will be nationally televised on Peacock as well as each team’s regional sports channel and MLB.TV.

This will be a pitching duel between a righty and a lefty. Right-hander Brady Singer will take the mound for the Royals. Left-handed pitcher Tarik Skubal is the starting pitcher for the Tigers. Singer has a 3-3 record with a 4.33 ERA. Skubal is 5-6 with an ERA of 3.75.

As of July 2, the Royals were last place and the Tigers were second-to-last in the AL Central. 

Going into the series, the Royals dropped two of three games from the visiting Texas Rangers. The Tigers split a pair with the host San Francisco Giants in interleague play just prior to the set. 

Singer has allowed 52 hits, 10 walks, and nine home runs, along with throwing  49 strikeouts in 54.0 innings. The Royals are 1-4 in the last five pitching appearances from Singer. Skubal has given up 77 hits, 21 walks, and six home runs in 84.0 innings. The Tigers are also 1-4 the last five times Skubal has pitched. 

In his last outing on June 26 against the visiting Oakland A’s, Singer allowed four earned runs, seven hits, and a home run, along with throwing five strikeouts in 8.1 innings. In Skubal’s last game at the Giants on June 28, he gave up three earned runs and four hits as well as tossing five strikeouts in 4.2 innings. 

The Tigers took two out of three from the host Royals from April 14-16. 

As of July 2, the Royals rank 18th in batting average (.238), 23rd in on-base percentage (.303), 26th in slugging percentage (.373) and home runs (61) and 27th in RBI (272). Left fielder Andrew Benintendi leads the Royals in batting average (.308), on-base percentage (.372), and hits (86). Catcher Salvador Perez is tops for the Royals in home runs (11) and second in RBI (34). Shortstop Bobby Witt Jr. is first in RBI (39) and tied for first in home runs. 

As of July 2, the Tigers rank 27th in batting average (.227), 29th in on-base percentage (.283) and last in slugging percentage (.331), RBI (214) and home runs (42). Future Hall of Fame member Miguel Cabrera leads the Tigers in batting average (.300), RBI (25), on-base percentage (335), and hits (71). Shortstop Javier Baez is first on the Tigers with seven home runs and tied for first in RBI. 

Going into July 2, the Royals were 31-44 against the spread overall and 17-19 against the spread on the road. For over/under, the Royals are 36-36-3 overall and 17-17-2 on the road. 

Before the action on July 2, the Tigers were 36-39 against the spread overall and 16-24 against the spread at home. In terms of over/under, the Tigers are 26-45-4 overall and 15-23-2 at home.
