MaximBet, derived from lifestyle brand Maxim and sports betting operator Carousel Group, has launched MaximBet Play, a free-to-play sports prediction app. In partnership with free-to-play specialist Splash Tech, MaximBet is expanding its customer base by offering a free platform for all users in the US and Canada.

Currently, MaximBet’s sportsbook platform is only legal in Colorado, although they have secured market access deals in a couple of other states. The MaximBet Play launch allows the company to engage with users from all over the country, regardless of sports betting legality.

Because the app is free to use, typical sports betting laws and regulations do not apply. The good news for users, though, is that there are still cash prizes to be had despite not needing to deposit any money. While MaximBet Play’s focus is on college football during bowl season, it offers plenty more. The app covers the major US leagues such as the NFL and NBA, and it offers a handful of contests for Champions League soccer, the NHL, boxing, and tennis.

Some leagues, like college basketball, have sparse or sporadic options, but it’s reasonable to expect more college basketball contests as we approach conference tournaments and March Madness.

MARKETS

Most contests or games in the app follow the same structure. Users are posed a question and given a handful of predictions, or answers, to choose from. Most answers consist of predicting who wins a certain game and by how much, how many points are scored, and whether or not a player will exceed a certain yardage or point total. For those familiar with traditional sports betting, the predictions most closely resemble moneylines, totals, spreads, and player props.

The biggest and most obvious difference between MaximBet Play and the MaximBet sportsbook is that MaximBet Play is free and, as a result, safe. With lower risk, however, comes lower, or less frequent, reward. MaximBet Play will contact winning players within 48 hours of a contest closing. From there, they will likely transfer the winnings via an e-wallet such as PayPal.

MaximBet Play offers monthly leaderboards by summing up each user’s point total throughout a month. Points gained by competing in any contest or making predictions in any sport are applied to the monthly leaderboards. The top-50 users receive a reward.

Players earn points based on how many possible answers were available when they made the pick. If a question asked how many touchdowns Jonathan Taylor would score with possible answers of “0, 1, 2+” and the player correctly chose “1,” the player would receive 3 points.
