Currently, MaximBet’s sportsbook platform is only legal in Colorado, although they have secured market access deals in a couple of other states. The MaximBet Play launch allows the company to engage with users from all over the country, regardless of sports betting legality.
Because the app is free to use, typical sports betting laws and regulations do not apply. The good news for users, though, is that there are still cash prizes to be had despite not needing to deposit any money. Users attempt to predict different game and player outcomes and, if they are correct often enough, they’ll qualify for lucrative prizes.
MAXIMBET PLAY WELCOME OFFERS
Because MaximBet Play is a free-to-play app, users won’t find the traditional deposit matches or bonus-bet-bonuses they’d typically find with sportsbooks. The only promotion the app can offer is a referral bonus. Every user is assigned a referral code and will receive a “double shot” for every person they refer. A double shot provides users with an extra guess or prediction for a given game or outcome they are predicting.
WELCOME OFFER DETAILS
While there is no typical welcome offer with a monetary incentive for new players, MaximBet Play used the ever-popular college football bowl season to attract new players shortly after its launch. Its first big contest was its “Crystal Bowl” predictions. In this challenge, players made predictions on over 20 bowl games throughout the bowl season.
For this contest and for any individual game, users are shown a series of question cards. For example, a question could be “how many touchdowns will Bryce Young throw?” There will be a handful of answers to choose from, and there can be as many as 10 predictions to make for a given game.
With each correct prediction, users earn points and climb the leaderboard. There are leaderboards for each month as well as specific contests. Upon that specific contest’s conclusion, or the month's conclusion, the user sitting atop the leaderboard will receive a prize, typically in the form of an Amazon gift card.
AVAILABLE LEAGUES AND MARKETS
On top of the Crystal Bowl competition, users have a fairly wide range of leagues and markets to choose from. The selection is extremely similar to that of a sportsbook.
While MaximBet Play’s focus is on college football during bowl season, it offers plenty more. The app covers the major US leagues such as the NFL and NBA, and it offers a handful of contests for Champions League soccer, the NHL, boxing, and tennis.
Some leagues, like college basketball, have sparse or sporadic options, but it’s reasonable to expect more college basketball contests as we approach conference tournaments and March Madness.
Most contests or games in the app follow the same structure. Users are posed a question and given a handful of predictions, or answers, to choose from. Most answers consist of predicting who wins a certain game and by how much, how many points are scored, and whether or not a player will exceed a certain yardage or point total. For those familiar with traditional sports betting, the predictions most closely resemble moneylines, totals, spreads, and player props.
HOW MAXIMBET PLAY COMPARES TO THE PAID PLATFORM
The biggest and most obvious difference between MaximBet Play and the MaximBet sportsbook is that MaximBet Play is free and, as a result, safe. With lower risk, however, comes lower, or less frequent, reward. Players can still win significant cash prizes, but it a just a small percentage of participants who qualify for said prizes in each contest.
Aside from the monetary differences, MaximBet’s paid platform also offers a wider array of leagues and markets. While the selection is relatively limited in the free-to-play app, MaximBet’s sportsbook offers MMA leagues, PGA, college basketball, and more.
For players who are not as interested in wagering their hard-earned cash on sports, the free MaximBet Play app is almost perfect. It provides a taste of sports betting with a chance to win real prizes on a zero dollar investment.
PROS AND CONS
PROS OF FREE PLAY VERSION
- Zero risk with potential reward
- Hone sports betting skills before depositing money
- Simple, easy-to-navigate app interface
CONS OF FREE PLAY VERSION
- Limited offering of leagues and markets
- Small percentage of participants win significant prize money
Players can win cash up to $5,000 in contests with a prize pool of $10,000. The prize pool varies by contest, ranging from $50 to $10,000, but there are also contests in which users win only points. Points dictate a user’s position on a leaderboard, and their position on the leaderboard is what earns them prize money. MaximBet Play will also offer experiences as part of its prize pools as opposed to cash and gift cards. Experiences can include private parties, luxury trips, and more for top participants.
MAXIMBET PLAY FAQS
IF I WIN, HOW DO I CLAIM MY CASH?
MaximBet Play will contact winning players within 48 hours of a contest closing. From there, they will likely transfer the winnings via an e-wallet such as PayPal.
WHAT DIFFERENT TYPES OF LEADERBOARDS ARE THERE?
MaximBet Play offers monthly leaderboards by summing up each user’s point total throughout a month. Points gained by competing in any contest or making predictions in any sport are applied to the monthly leaderboards. The top-50 users receive a reward.
There are also special contest leaderboards such as the aforementioned Crystal Bowl in which specific games qualify for the contest. For example, only points earned through correct predications in college football bowl games will count toward the Crystal Bowl leaderboard.
HOW MANY POINTS DO I GET FOR A CORRECT PICK?
Players earn points based on how many possible answers were available when they made the pick. If a question asked how many touchdowns Jonathan Taylor would score with possible answers of “0, 1, 2+” and the player correctly chose “1,” the player would receive 3 points.
