NASCAR Cook Out 400 Picks, Predictions

The ninth race of the NASCAR season takes place at the short track of Martinsville Speedway in Ridgeway, Virginia on Sunday afternoon.

Denny Hamlin has won two of the last three races, including last week's victory at Richmond. Hamlin is the co-favorite heading into Sunday at 4/1 alongside Kyle Larson, who won this race last season at Martinsville.

Martin Truex, Jr. was the last driver to win this race in consecutive years back in 2020 and 2021 as Larson is looking to duplicate that feat.

Hamlin saw success in the two Martinsville races in 2023 by finishing 4th in the April race and 3rd in the October event. However, his last victory at Martinsville came in 2015.

NASCAR EXPERT BETS - COOK OUT 400

For this week's Cook Out 400 on Sunday April 7, 2024 from Martinsville Speedway in Martinsville, Virginia, our auto racing experts are focusing on the below individuals:

  • Josh Berry
  • Chase Briscoe
  • Martin Truex Jr.
Josh Berry Top 10 Finish (+100)

Martinsville has been a great track for SHR with the Next-Gen car. After struggling at Phoenix, Berry had a lot of speed at Richmond last weekend. Berry finished 11th and had an average running finishing position of 8.3. He comes from a short-track background, and I like his chances to run well this weekend.

Chase Briscoe Race Winner (+3000)

I have Briscoe ranked 5th in my model this weekend, and he presents the best value on the board, according to my data. I put a half-unit on his outright and a full unit on his top-10 bet. Briscoe is one of 3 drivers to finish inside the top 10 in all four Martinsville races with the Next-Gen car. Briscoe has qualified 4th or better in 3 straight races here. Track position is a major factor at Martinsville, and Stewart-Haas Racing has done a great job at qualifying here.

Martin Truex Race Winner (+750)

For the most part, I will be waiting for practice and qualifying to make my outright bets this weekend. With that said, I think Truex is the car to beat this weekend, and I want to get in on this one early. Truex ranked 2nd in speed at Phoenix and followed that up by ranking 1st in speed at Richmond. Traditionally, Truex has been great at Martinsville, and with the new short-track package, he's been the best car. If the caution didn't come out at Richmond, he would have won that race, and his odds would be much tighter.
