San Diego State vs Utah State

by Kevin Rogers

Utah State and San Diego State are tied atop the Mountain West Conference at 9-4 heading into tonight's pivotal matchup in Logan.

The Aggies lost in the first meeting with the Aztecs in San Diego earlier this month, 81-67 as Utah State couldn't hold onto an early 7-point lead.

San Diego State has struggled as an underdog in MWC play with losses at Nevada, Colorado State, Boise State, and New Mexico.

Utah State has been listed as this short of a home favorite once this season as the Aggies took care of Colorado State, 77-72 as 2.5-point chalk.

Look for the Aggies to avenge the earlier loss to the Aztecs and grab the home win.

Pick: Utah State -2.5 (-110)

Maryland vs Wisconsin

Wisconsin Badgers -7 (-110)

Wisconsin isn't playing its best right now with losses in five of the past six games, but four of five losses have come on the road, two of which were in overtime including the tough loss Saturday in Iowa City.

The Badgers have lost at the Kohl Center just twice this season and both games were against elite competition losing in November against Tennessee and in early February against Purdue.

Wisconsin has gone 6-1 S/U at home in Big Ten play and every win has come by eight or more points. Wisconsin has fallen in stature in recent weeks, but this team still has an appealing profile in a very small group of teams nationally with a top 40 efficiency ranking on both sides of the ball.

Maryland was once 5-5 in Big Ten play but has now dropped four of the past five games.

The Terrapins have a few quality road wins including winning at Illinois, but that result came when the Illini didn't have Terrance Shannon.

Maryland is just 2-5 S/U in Big Ten road games and while many of those games featured close finals, the offense for Kevin Willard has unappealing numbers ranking 13th in the Big Ten while the worst 3-point shooting team in the conference and struggling with turnovers.

Nearly 71 percent of Big Ten hosts have won S/U this season as home court has meant a lot in Big Ten play and while Maryland has been a tough defensive team for the season, they have allowed 79 and 80 points in two of the past three games.

Maryland has won four of the past 10 meetings against the Badgers in a series that has featured several close games, but Wisconsin's scoring advantages could be dramatic in this pairing with the Badgers shooting eight percent better from 3-point range and with an effective field goal rate nearly 10 percent better in Big Ten play.

The Badgers have scored 68 or more points in four of the past five losses as the offense is still capable and this is a do-or-die game for Wisconsin if they want to stay in the top four in the standings.
