College Basketball Best Bets | Expert Picks for Wednesday, Feb. 28

Virginia vs Boston College

by Kevin Rogers

Boston College looks to snap a two-game slide as the Eagles return home to battle a struggling Virginia squad.

Since winning eight consecutive games, the Cavaliers have gone backwards of late by dropping three of their past four contests, while scoring fewer than 50 points in three straight games.

BC has won three of its past four in Chestnut Hill, as the Eagles look to knock off the Cavaliers for the second straight season at home.

Virginia is 1-5 SU/ATS this season as a road underdog and it's hard to back them with their offensive struggles, even getting points.

Pick: Boston College -1.5 (-110)

Oklahoma vs Iowa State

Oklahoma Sooners +9.5 (-110)

Oklahoma scored a big rivalry win at Oklahoma State over the weekend and the Sooners have three Big XII road wins this season.

Most road losses have been competitive games as well with only the loss at Baylor getting away from the Sooners.

Oklahoma started the Big XII season with a 71-63 win over Iowa State in Norman posting an edge in shooting results even while losing the turnover and rebounding battles.

Iowa State has a very impressive profile particularly on defense and the Cyclones are undefeated at home, while 12-3-1 ATS in Ames.

That means a swing of nearly 12 points in price from the first meeting between these teams however with this set to the be largest favorite price for Iowa State in this series in quite some time.

Porter Moser has not had great results in his three seasons at Oklahoma though this year's team should finally break into the NCAA Tournament.

This matchup has gone well for Moser however with a 3-2 S/U record and one of the losses by just three points. Oklahoma is 7-2 S/U in the past nine in this series including two wins in Ames.

Blowout wins have not been common for Iowa State as the Cyclones are still a mediocre offensive team with the fourth worst effective field goal rate in the Big XII and the second worst free throw shooting.

The Cyclones have 10 conference wins but only three wins have come by more than tonight's spread. Iowa State also faced one of the nation's weakest non-conference schedules to boost the numbers.

Expect Oklahoma to again play competitively in this game with the Cyclones likely overpriced tonight as a team that will command plenty of popular market support given its 16-0 home record.
