Texas Southern ousted the No. 1 seed in the SWAC Tournament, Alcorn State, to claim the automatic bid. The Tigers came alive in their league tourney, going 3-0 SU/2-0-1 ATS in three games across four days, beating Jackson State, Grambling and Alcorn. The Tigers allowed just 55.3 PPG during the impressive run, too, cashing the UNDER in two of the three outings. Texas Southern had closed the regular season on a 4-10 ATS skid in the final 14 games.

Texas A&M-Corpus Christi had a similar run in the Southland Tournament, winning and covering three games in three days while cashing the UNDER in each outing. The Islanders allowed just 63.0 PPG, while averaging 73.0 PPG during the tourney. The Islanders had a five-game losing skid from Jan. 29-Feb. 17, but recovered to win seven of the past eight games overall, going 7-1 ATS during the span, too.

The highlight of Texas Southern's season, other than winning its tournament final, was a 69-54 victory at Florida back on Dec. 6 as 23.5-point underdogs. That was an unlikely victory, as the Tigers entered 0-7 SU. That win kick-started a nice run which also included a win over Texas-Rio Grande Valley, a Southland Conference team in the same league as TXAMCC. Texas Southern also posted covers against Oregon, Saint Mary's, Washington, NC State and BYU this season.

Since Jan. 22, Texas Southern has registered a 13-2 SU record, and it is 2-0-1 ATS in the past three games after a 4-10 ATS skid from Jan. 15-March 5 to close out the regular season.

The Tigers have posted a 4-0-1 ATS mark across the past five games as a favorite, while going 9-2 ATS in the past 11 games against winning teams. The Tigers are 3-0-1 ATS in the past four NCAA Tournament games, too, while going 11-1-2 ATS in the previous 14 neutral-site games.

For totals, the OVER is 5-2 in the past seven games overall, while going 5-2 in the past seven as a favorite and 6-2 in the past eight NCAA Tournament games.

The Islanders are also 4-0 ATS in the past four neutral-site games, while going 10-3 ATS in the past 13 games as an underdog. TXAMCC is also 5-1 ATS in the past six games following a straight-up win, and 5-1 ATS in the past six following a cover, too.

As far as the totals are concerned, the Islanders have hit the OVER is 15 of the past 21 games as an underdog, while going 7-3-1 in the previous 11 neutral-site games as an underdog. The OVER is also 20-8-1 in the past 29 games following a SU win.

TEXAS SOUTHERN TIGERS vs. TEXAS A&M-CC ISLANDERS BETTING CONCLUSION

While these universities are separated by just roughly 215 miles and about three and a half hours drive time, the basketball teams haven't played since Nov. 9, 2007. The Tigers won that day by a 72-64 score, but while it's worth noting, it isn't terribly important to this game. Islanders star forward Isaac Mushila was seven years old and living in the Congo back then, while TXAMCC head coach Steve Lutz was working as an assistant at SMU under then-coach Matt Doherty.

The Islanders won't be fazed facing the Tigers, but Texas Southern won't be fazed by heading to Dayton, either. The Tigers have been in the First Four in Dayton on four separate occasions just since 2014, going 2-1 SU/ATS. That includes a 60-52 win over Mount St. Mary's last season, and obliterating North Carolina Central 64-46 in 2018.

This will be Texas A&M-CC's second-ever NCAA Tournament game. It's only previous appearance was 2007, a 76-63 loss to Wisconsin as a 15-seed. The books are thinking that the lack of experience for the Islanders is the difference, as the Tigers are favored. However, look for Mushila and the Islanders to use its presence down low to push past the Tigers and into a matchup with Kansas.
