What is the Efficiency Ratio Ranking?

Each of the 358 schools in DI college basketball has an efficiency rating on both offense and defense. These ratings are based on the amount of points a team scores (offense) or team allows (defense) per every 100 possessions. These ratings are then ranked amongst the 358 schools. Each school's offensive and defensive efficiency rankings are then averaged out to determine the overall efficiency ratio ranking (ERR). The lower the ratio the higher the ranking.

ERR's aren't the make-or-break of a team's success in the NCAA Tournament. School's with high ratios have won this event the last few years, such as Virginia and Baylor. Teams with high ERR's have also pulled off a first round upset before losing in the second round, such as Abilene Christian. Perhaps teams with high ERR's might just be good bets to cover a large spread.

However you plan to use ERR's for your bracket or betting picks, it's also just good to know which team's have the best balance on both sides of the court. Below is the final ERR for the 68 schools in the 2022 NCAA Men's Basketball Tournament.
