Memphis Tigers vs. Ole Miss Rebels Predictions

Memphis will be looking to get back on track this Saturday coming off back-to-back losses as a double-digit favorite. The Tigers are a much better team than their performance in those two setbacks after starting the season with five straight-up wins to move into the nation’s top 10.

Ole Miss is also off to a 5-2 start SU with a pair of losses closing as a favorite. Playing at home this Saturday should keep things close to the final buzzer as these two teams do matchup rather well against one another.

This is the kind of game where one team is going to have to outscore the other as opposed to winning on defense. I am giving Memphis the slight edge on the scoreboard. However, the best betting value is the OVER on the total line.

Memphis Tigers Betting Analysis

Straight Up - SU, Against the Spread - ATS, Over-Under (O/U)

  • SU: 5-2
  • ATS: 3-4
  • O/U: 4-3

Coming off a bad loss to Iowa State by 19 points as an 11.5-point favorite, Memphis was stunned by Georgia on Wednesday night in an 82-79 loss favored by the exact same spread. The total went OVER 142 points in that last game.

The Tigers have been able to average 78.6 points per game this season. Breakdowns on defense led to both of those losses. Forward Emoni Bates (12.1 points) leads a trio of players averaging at least 10 PPG. He is shooting 42.6% from the field.

Center Jalen Duren is next on the list with 11.1 points while leading the team in rebounds with 8.7 a game. Forward DeAndre Williams rounds out the three with 10 PPG. Guards’ Landers Nolley II and Lester Quinones are each adding another nine points a game.

The Tigers, as a team, are shooting 47.4% from the field and 35.8% from three-point range. They are pulling down an average of 40.4 rebounds, including 13.1 on the offensive end of the court. Defensively, Memphis is allowing an average of 67.6 points a game.

Ole Miss Rebels Betting Analysis

Straight Up - SU, Against the Spread - ATS, Over-Under (O/U)

  • SU: 5-2
  • ATS: 3-4
  • O/U: 3-4

The Rebels’ two losses this season came against Marquette as 3.5-point favorites and Boise State favored by two points. This past Tuesday, they cruised past Rider 75-51 to cover the 14.5- point spread at home. The total has stayed UNDER in their last four games.

Against Memphis, Ole Miss should come very close to matching its 74.1-point scoring average. Guard Jarkel Joiner has led the way with 15.4 PPG. He is connecting on 46% of his shots from the field and 44.1% of his 34 attempts from outside the three-point line. The next highest scorer on the team is forward Jaemyn Brakefield with 9.9 points a game.

Center Nysier Brooks (8.0 points) is the Rebels’ leading rebounder with 7.9 of the team’s 40.9 rebounds a game. Forward Robert Allen has pulled down a team-high 18 rebounds on offense. Ole Miss is giving up an average of 61.7 PPG to gain the slight edge on defense.

The Rebels matchup well against Memphis shooting the ball. They are hitting 45.5% from the field and converting on 33.8% of their shots from three-point range. One glaring issue is at the free throw line at 64.3%.

Memphis Tigers vs. Ole Miss Rebels Betting Conclusion

This should be a fun game to watch with two teams that know how to put points on the board. The two straight losses has Memphis highly motivated for a win. Ole Miss knows that a quality win would help its non-conference resume.

There is some history between the two teams with 13 previous meetings. Memphis came away with an 87-86 victory the last time they met in November of 2019. The Tigers closed as 4.5-point favorites at home.

Ole Miss has the overall SU edge at 7-6 SU and it has gone 8-4-1 ATS in those 13 games. Interestingly enough, the total has gone OVER in the last five games between the two. Memphis is 4-6 SU in its last 10 road games with a 7-3 record ATS. The total has stayed UNDER in five of its last seven games on the road.

The Rebels bring a SU six-game winning streak at home into Saturday’s matchup. They are 4-2 ATS. The total has been evenly split 3-3 in those six contests.
