XAVIER MUSKETEERS VS. MARQUETTE GOLDEN EAGLES PREDICTIONS

The Musketeers picked up a 68-67 win at DePaul last time out on Wednesday, but failed to cover the nine-point number as the UNDER connected. That's now three consecutive non-covers for Xavier. The Musketeers shot 48%, or 25-of-52, from the field, while connecting on 42%, or 8-of-19, from behind the 3-point line. Surprisingly, Xavier was outrebounded 34-32 against DePaul, while turning it over 14 times to just 12 for the Blue Demons. XU was fortunate to hang on, too, as it misfired six times on 16 free-throw attempts, good for just a 62% mark.

The Golden Eagles will have revenge on their minds, as they were dropped 80-71 at the Cintas Center by Xavier back on Dec. 18, although Marquette was able to cover an 11-point number as the total pushed at most shops. The big dogs were barking for Marquette, as Justin Lewis went for 15 points and seven rebounds, while Darryl Morsell was good for 14 points, six rebounds and two steals. Both players had a blocked shot, while big man Kur Kuath had four swats while going scoreless. Greg Elliott also shined with a team-high 18 points while dropping in a pair of triples.

XAVIER MUSKETEERS BETTING ANALYSIS

Straight Up - SU, Against the Spread - ATS, Over-Under (O/U)

  • SU: 14-3
  • ATS: 10-7
  • O/U: 7-9-1

Xavier is clinging to its Top 25 ranking, winning the past two games against Creighton and DePaul. However, the Musketeers are 0-3 ATS across the past three outings, and 1-5 ATS over the previous six outings dating back to Dec. 18, which was the date of its win in the first battle against Marquette. Prior to that, Xavier had covered six in a row from Nov. 26-Dec. 15, including wins over Cincinnati, Oklahoma State and Virginia Tech. Its troubles against the number started when it got into Big East play.

This will be the fifth true road game for Xavier this season. It is 3-1 SU/2-2 ATS in four road games to date, including a 2-1 SU/1-2 ATS mark in three conference away games. As a favorite, Xavier is just 1-4 ATS across the past five.

For totals, the UNDER has a slight advantage at 3-2-1 in the past six games overall, and the UNDER is 2-1 in the past three road games inside the conference.

MARQUETTE GOLDEN EAGLES BETTING ANALYSIS

Straight Up - SU, Against the Spread - ATS, Over-Under (O/U)

  • SU: 13-6
  • ATS: 11-8
  • O/U: 10-8-1

The Golden Eagles have won and covered five consecutive games, a nice change after a four-game losing skid which saw Marquette go 1-3 ATS from Dec. 11-Jan. 1. It seems like a sense of normalcy and regular play has helped Marquette get back on track, as the losing streak was during a start and stop period with a pause due to the holidays and COVID.

Marquette has covered six of eight games inside the conference so far, including a cover as 11-point underdogs against Xavier on Dec. 18. That is par for the course in this series, as the Golden Eagles are 5-2 SU while going 6-1 ATS across the past seven meetings. Marquette has won three straight at home since Xavier's last win in Milwaukee back on Dec. 27, 2017. Marquette has covered the past three at home against Xavier, too, while the UNDER is 2-1 in those three games. However, the OVER is 4-1-1 in the past six meetings.

XAVIER MUSKETEERS VS. MARQUETTE GOLDEN EAGLES BETTING CONCLUSION

Xavier has been playing with fire lately, struggling with its shot, turning the ball over and having some difficulty at the free-throw line. The Musketeers haven't had a lot of success recently against the Golden Eagles, particularly against the number. Xavier is 1-6 ATS in the past seven games overall, while dropping each of the past three trips to Milwaukee.

Marquette might be playing its best basketball of the season, and lately they have looked more like the Top 25 team, not Xavier. A meeting with the Golden Eagles isn't exactly the elixir to cure the ills of the Musketeers, especially on the road. Marquette will exact revenge for a loss in the first meeting, and you can expect another cover for the home side in this series, too.
