UPDATE 4 P.M. ET MONDAY: Texas seems to get early chatter every year in the College Football Playoff odds market, then dutifully doesn't live up to the chatter. In 2022, the Longhorns went 8-5 SU and ATS. Texas' season ended with a 27-20 Alamo Bowl loss laying 3 points against Washington.

With a 5-7 SU regular season, Rice fell a game short of what's normally required to get a bowl bid. But the Owls got one anyway. Go figure. Rice finished 5-8 SU/7-6 ATS after losing 38-24 as a 6.5-point pup to Southern Mississippi in the Lending Tree Bowl.

The Rice-Texas spread receded to Longhorns -34.5 on July 19, then went to -35 on Aug. 2 at Caesars Sports. There's been no movement since. The total reached 59.5 on Aug. 2, then today went to 59.
