Then on Saturday, No. 22 Iowa State thumped FCS foe South Dakota 55-7 laying 16.5 points at home.
Iowa (1-0 SU and ATS) opened its season Saturday, rolling over FCS opponent Albany 34-7. But the Hawkeyes fell well short of cashing as 39.5-point home favorites.
The Iowa-Iowa State line was on the move early in Borgata Sports' college football Week 2 odds market.
"We opened this Iowa State -2.5, and immediately, respected money came in laying the 2.5. We are currently sitting at Iowa State -3," Borgata sportsbook director Tom Gable said. "We'll see if we can get some buyback on Iowa at +3. This may be heading higher though."
The total nudged from 42.5 to 42 at Borgata.
Circa Sports, often the first to post weekly college football odds, opened Iowa State -2 at home. Within minutes Sunday, that number went to Cyclones -2.5/-3, then advanced to -3.5 within a couple hours. It's now at Cyclones -3
Likewise, Circa's total was on the move early, going straight from 44.5 to 43. This morning, it dipped another 1.5 points to 41.5.

UPDATE 6 P.M. ET MONDAY: Baylor got a stern Week 1 challenge at home and now has to hit the road against a ranked outfit. On Friday night, the Bears (0-1 SU and ATS) couldn't keep pace with Auburn in a 38-24 loss catching 1 point.
No. 16 Southern Methodist (1-0) had a much more softball opener, hosting FCS foe Texas A&M-Commerce. The Mustangs coasted to a 42-13 victory but were miles short of covering as massive 50.5-point favorites.
"SMU opened as 3.5-point favorites. It is down to 3 on some early Baylor money," Borgata sportsbook director Tom Gable said. "But I could see this line bouncing back and forth between and 3 and 3.5 throughout the week."
Borgata's total is steady at 65.5.
"Some money is starting to trickle in on the Under, but nothing significant yet," Gable said.
SMU opened -4 at Circa and saw two moves Sunday, to -3.5/-3. Just a few minutes ago, the Mustangs briefly dipped to -2.5, then returned to -3. The total opened at 67.5 and went straight to 65 within a minute.

UPDATE 6 P.M. ET MONDAY: No. 21 Ole Miss (1-0 SU and ATS) had no trouble with Sun Belt Conference foe Georgia State in Saturday's season opener. The Rebels rolled to a 63-7 home win, easily covering as 33.5-point favorites.
Kentucky (1-0 SU/0-1 ATS) didn't have it nearly as easy, but was also never really threatened by Toledo. The Wildcats posted a 24-16 victory as 10-point home faves, failing to cover when Toledo got a touchdown with 1:55 remaining.
Mississippi opened as 9.5-point chalk in Borgata Sportsbook's college football odds Week 2 market.
"Ole Miss is up to a 10-point road favorite here after opening at -9.5," Borgata sportsbook director Tom Gable said. "Not much written on this in the early going, but enough people are laying the 9.5 to drive this to 10."
Borgata's total is steady at 52.5.
Circa Sports opened Ole Miss -9, advanced to -10 within an hour and went to -10.5 Sunday night. The total went from 51.5 to 53 Sunday evening, then backed up to 52.5 this morning.

UPDATE 6 P.M. ET MONDAY: Florida (1-0 SU and ATS) has what many experts deem the toughest schedule in the nation this season. So perhaps you can forgive the Gators for scheduling Long Island in Week 1. No. 15 Florida notched a 55-0 rout giving 46.5 points at home.
South Florida (1-0 SU and ATS) is coming off an impressive upset in Week 1. The Bulls were 4.5-point home pups, but hammered Boise State 34-7.
At Borgata Sports, Florida is down to -17.5 from a -18.5 opener in college football Week 2 odds.
"We did see some early money taking the points with South Florida," Borgata sportsbook director Tom Gable said. "I expect this number to stay around 17.5, and maybe go a little lower."
Borgata's total opened and remains 54.5.
Early movement at Circa Sports would seem to indicate sharp play on the big underdog. Florida opened -19, went to -18 within 90 minutes Sunday, then this morning dipped to -17.5/-17. Circa's total is down to 54 from a 55 opener.
Michigan vs. Oklahoma Odds

UPDATE 6 P.M. ET MONDAY: This is the only matchup of ranked teams in the college football odds Week 2 market.
No. 18 Oklahoma (1-0 SU/0-1 ATS) started strong with a 35-3 rout of FCS foe Illinois State. But the Sooners fell short of covering as hefty 40.5-point home favorites.
No. 14 Michigan at least played an FBS opponent, getting a little test at home against New Mexico. The outcome was never in doubt, as the Wolverines won 34-17, but were nowhere near covering the 34.5-point spread.
Michigan-Oklahoma was on the move early at Borgata Sportsbook, a BetMGM shop in Atlantic City.
"Oklahoma opened as 5.5-point favorites here and were quickly bet to -6," Borgata sportsbook director Tom Gable said. "This is a Saturday slate that is certainly on the weaker side for mainstream appeal. But this game should do decent business overall.
"Being in prime time will certainly help the handle."
Borgata's total dipped from 47.5 to 46.5.
Circa Sports opened Oklahoma -5.5 Sunday and went straight to -6.5 this morning, then settled in at -6. The total opened at 48 and is down to 46.
UL Monroe vs. Alabama Odds
Matchup | Spread | Total | Moneyline |
---|---|---|---|
Alabama vs
Louisiana-Monroe | -37.5 (-110)
+37.5 (-110) | o50.5 (-115)
u50.5 (-105) | |
- Opening point spread: Alabama -37.5
- Opening moneyline: Alabama TBA/UL Monroe TBA
- Opening total: Over/Under 50.5 points scored
- Time: 7:45 p.m. ET Saturday (SEC Network)
UPDATE 6 P.M. ET MONDAY: The only reason this matchup makes the college football Week 2 odds report is because Alabama is coming off a shocking Week 1 loss. The eighth-ranked Crimson Tide (0-1 SU and ATS) were 13.5-point favorites at Florida State and got rocked 31-17.
Alabama hopes to regain its bearings against Louisiana-Monroe, out of the Sun Belt Conference. The Warhawks (1-0 SU/0-1 ATS) breezed by FCS foe St. Francis 29-0, but couldn't cover as 30.5-point home favorites.
No surprise, Alabama is a massive favorite, opening and remaining -37.5 at Borgata Sports.
"Alabama losing outright to Florida State in Week 1 was one of the biggest decisions of the week for us," Borgata sportsbook director Tom Gable said. "Here, they have a pretty easy get-right spot at home against UL Monroe.
"You’d expect the Crimson Tide to run up the score here and try to soothe some of the anxiety that seems to be surrounding the program now."
Borgata's total opened and remains 50.5.
"The total has taken some early money to the Over, but that money certainly wasn’t profiled as respected," Gable said.
Circa Sports hit the market earlier Sunday, opening the Tide at -39 and almost immediately going to -37. The line then ticked up to Bama -38, and it's been stable at -37.5 since mid-Sunday afternoon.
Circa's total went from 52 to 50.5 Sunday, then settled at 51 this morning.
