BYU COUGARS vs. OREGON DUCKS BETTING PREDICTION

BYU has stormed its way up the Top 25 rankings with a 26-20 overtime victory over Baylor in Provo last time out, covering a 2.5-point spread as the UNDER connected. That came on the heels of a 50-21 victory over South Florida on the road, also covering a 10.5-point spread.

The Cougars were bottled up in the run game by the Bears, yielding 83 yards on 33 carries, but BYU passed for 283 yards while registering 24 first downs to 22 for Baylor. BYU also allowed 154 yards on the ground, but limited the Bears to just 137 while pressuring Baylor for four sacks. QB Jaren Hall completed 23-of-39 passes for 261 yards and one touchdown with 28 rushing yards, and the star on the receiving end is WR Chase Roberts, who had eight grabs for 122 yards and a TD vs. Baylor.

Who knows what we're going to get from Oregon. The Ducks were destroyed by Georgia in a neutral-site game, 49-3, coming nowhere near covering the 16-point spread as the UNDER hit. UO bounced back with a 70-14 win over Eastern Washington of the FCS, covering a 27-point number as the OVER hit, but it remains to be seen whether Oregon is back. This is the first home game in the Dan Lanning era against an FBS team, and it is a much better measuring stick game than facing the likes of EWU. Even after getting punished by UGA, if Oregon can find its sea legs and top BYU, the Ducks can save its season for now. However, just not seeing that, as I don't trust QB Bo Nix.

Nix is getting a second chance to prove himself as a big-time college quarterback, and he has 450 passing yards, 5 TD and 2 INT, but he was god-awful against UGA with 173 yards, 0 TD and 2 INT, with all of his damage against an overwhelmed EWU. We'll see if he can look sharp against a ranked FBS team, but shaking the Magic 8 Ball...all signs point to doubtful.

Score Prediction: BYU 29, Oregon 24

BYU COUGARS BETTING ANALYSIS

It's two up and two down for BYU, averaging 38.0 PPG while allowing 20.5 PPG, covering both outings while splitting the OVER-UNDER. The Cougars have used a balanced offensive attack for success, while also relying upon a strong defensive effort. BYU has allowed just 292.0 total yards per game, while giving up just 154.5 yards per game through the air to rank 21st. That's a good sign against the likes of a sporadic Nix.

BYU has registered a 4-1 ATS mark in the past five appearances in the month of September, while going just 1-4 ATS in the past five games on the road.

For totals, the OVER has cashed in five of the past seven games overall, but that's the only arrow which points to the OVER. The UNDER has hit in five of the past seven games in the month of September, while going 16-5 in the past 21 games against Pac-12 foes. The UNDER is also 23-9 in the past 32 games following a cover for the Cougars.

OREGON DUCKS BETTING ANALYSIS

The Ducks are a hard team to figure out because they were blasted by the defending national champs, and they absolutely annihilated a decent FCS foe. Now we get to see the Ducks face another ranked team, and expectations are at an all-time low.

The good news is that this ranked matchup is at home, so you never know. But the BYU pass defense has been rock-solid, and it's a huge test for Nix. Lanning hitched his wagon to the former starter at Auburn, and Nix could be, or at least should be, on a short leash. Can you tell I don't really like him? Ha.

Oregon is just 2-5 ATS in the past seven non-conference games, and 1-5 ATS in the past six against FBS teams outside of the Pac-12 conference. The Ducks are also 9-19-1 ATS in the past 29 games in the month of September.

On totals, the Ducks have a long, long history of rolling up big numbers on their home field. Oregon has cashed the OVER at a 66-32-1 clip across the past 99 games at home. The OVER is also 5-2 in the past seven against teams with a winning record, too.
