TCU HORNED FROGS at KANSAS JAYHAWKS BETTING PREDICTION

For the first time ever, College Gameday will be in Lawrence, Kansas. The unbeaten Jayhawks are the biggest story through the first month of the college football season, and they will look to become bowl eligible with a win over the TCU Horned Frogs. That isn’t a big deal for most programs, but Kansas has not been bowl eligible since 2008, and they haven’t won more than three games in a season in 13 years prior to this season.

Score Prediction: Kansas 38, TCU 37

TCU HORNED FROGS BETTING ANALYSIS

Sonny Dykes has been a big hit across the Metroplex after coaching TCU’s local rival SMU for four years. Dykes has the Horned Frogs off to a 4-0 start, and he has modernized an offense that had gone stale under former head coach Gary Patterson.

Max Duggan looks like an entirely different quarterback in this offense. Duggan sat behind Chandler Morris to start the season, but he quickly proved to be the better option under center for OC Garrett Riley. He has completed 74.5% of his passes for 10.6 YPA with 11 touchdowns and no interceptions through five games.

TCU has run for over 1,000 yards in just four games, and the Horned Frogs are averaging 7.0 YPC. Kendre Miller and Emari Demercado are both averaging 7.6 YPC as the two leading rushers, and Duggan is averaging 6.5 YPC himself. That has led to this offense being ranked 10th in Offensive SP+.

The Horned Frogs have not been great on defense, but they have been better than the Jayhawks on this side of the ball. TCU is allowing 3.4 YPC and 6.4 YPA, and the Horned Frogs are ranked 23rd nationally in surrendering just 4.8 yards per play. However, the only quality offense they have faced was last week against Oklahoma, and Dillon Gabriel was forced to leave the game early in the second quarter after suffering a head injury.

KANSAS JAYHAWKS BETTING ANALYSIS

Lance Leipold has done a remarkable job in turning around the worst program in the Power Five. Kansas was a laughingstock for over a decade before Leipold got to Lawrence, but he has had incredible results in his second year.

The Jayhawks are ranked 27th in Offensive SP+ coming into this game. Jalon Daniels has been incredible with the ball in his hands, completing 68.2% of his passes for 9.2 YPA with 11 touchdowns and an interception. He is the second leading rusher on the team too with 329 rushing yards and five touchdowns, averaging 7.2 YPC.

Leipold likes to keep the ball on the ground, but he has an innovative way of keeping defenses off balance. He will have as many as four men in the backfield at times, and there have been several plays where Daniels has shared the field with backup QB Jason Bean. That has helped running backs Devin Neal (6.8 YPC with four TDs) and Daniel Hishaw Jr. (5.9 YPC with five TDs) find holes in opposing front sevens.

Kansas has had some issues on defense though. The Jayhawks rank 80th in Defensive SP+, and the pass defense has really struggled. They are surrendering 8.0 YPA and 309.5 YPG through the air, as West Virginia, Houston, and Duke were all able to air it out against this secondary. The good news is that the front seven can effectively stop the run with opponents averaging just 3.4 YPC. Additionally, Lonnie Phelps is one of the top pass rushers in the Big 12 with five sacks.
