UTSA ROADRUNNERS vs. FIU PANTHERS BETTING PREDICTION

The Roadrunners of UTSA aren't quite having the same kind of success they had last season when attaining the first double-digit win total and ranking in The Associated Press' Top 25. However, the Roadrunners aren't doing too shabby, either. The offense struggled to replace all-time rusher RB Sincere McCormick, and took a little while to jell, but not things are back on the rails and it is full steam ahead. UTSA has scored 31 or more points in each of the past three games, and five of six games overall.

FIU pulled off a shocking 21-7 win at New Mexico State on Oct. 1, winning outright as a 16.5-point underdog. It was even more shocking since it came on the heels of a 73-0 loss at Western Kentucky in the conference opener. However, the Panthers reverted back to their losing ways with a 33-12 setback to UConn last week at Riccardo Silva Stadium, slipping to 2-3 SU/1-4 ATS, while the UNDER has now cashed in three of the past four.

The Panthers actually lead the all-time series 2-1, winning each of the past two in the series. This will be just the second time these conference members have met in Miami, with the Panthers eking out a 14-7 win in the most recent South Florida tussle on Nov. 4, 2017.

Score Prediction: UTSA 49, FIU 17
Best Bet: FIU +33.5 (-108)
Best Bet: OVER 63.5 (-112)

UTSA ROADRUNNERS BETTING ANALYSIS

UTSA might not have the same run game as it did the past few seasons with McCormick, but the rest of the offense is quite seasoned. The Roadrunners have received tremendously consistent play from QB Frank Harris, who has completed 68.9% of his passes for 1,997 yards, 13 TD and 5 INT while running for 254 yards and 5 more scores. Overall, UTSA ranks 10th in the nation with 498.5 total yards per game, and 6th in passing with 350.3 yards per game through the air. It averages 37.3 PPG to rank 27th overall.

Defensively, UTSA has struggled mightily, coughing up 447.8 total yards per game to rank 115th, while allowing 33.0 PPG. So perhaps FIU will have a chance to move the ball and score some points. The Roadrunners give it up through the air and on the ground, doing neither facet of defense very well.

UTSA has cashed in 14 of the past 19 games on the road, while going 4-1 ATS in the past five appearances on Friday. And with those big offensive numbers, and terrible defensive stats, it's no surprise the OVER is a frequent happening. In fact, the OVER has hit in nine of the past 10 games for UTSA, while going a perfect 8-0 on the road in the past five, and 4-1 in the past five C-USA outings.

FIU PANTHERS BETTING ANALYSIS

If the Panthers do anything well, it's pass. And that's not saying much, as FIU has posted 224.6 passing yards per game to rank 89th. But in every other major offensive category, FIU ranks 114th or worse in the FBS.

On defense, the Panthers have allowed 146.8 yards per game on the ground, ranking 72nd, so FIU might actually be able to slow UTSA somewhat. But the Panthers are more than giving through the air, while allowing 38.2 PPG overall, ranking 124th out of 131.

FIU is just 7-22 ATS in the past 29 games overall, so it's difficult to suggest taking them and the points. However, going lightly on the home side isn't a bad idea even though it is 0-4 ATS in the past four at Riccardo Silva Stadium. That's because the Roadrunners are so very giving on offense, and this is a chance for FIU to finally do something.

Like UTSA, it's all about the OVER, going 17-8 in the past 25 games overall for FIU, while cashing in five of the past six appearances on a Friday, with a 33-16-2 mark in the past 51 C-USA games. The OVER is the best bet here.
