At the Gate – Friday

The bombs came in at Aqueduct on Thursday, the first two races won by horses paying $24.60 and $54.50 for a $2 double that paid $315.00.

With a $24.00 winner in the fourth race there was actually four horses not covered in the early Pick 5 which would had led to a nice carryover into today. But my top pick Buddy Anthony ($6.60) got the job done in the final race of the sequence, the Pick 5 paying $63,294.00 on a .50 cent ticket.

Despite not having any of the longshots, we did still manage to have three winners on top paying $7.30, $6.60 and $10.60 and three exactas that paid $37.80, $48.40 and $53.10.

It was tough to come up with prices on Friday’s card which may be more on the chalky side.

Do not forget we have a big day on tap on Saturday with the $16 million Pegasus World Cup (G1) at Gulfstream Park anchoring a 12-race card with eight stakes races.

While Gun Runner is the headliner and the 4-5 chalk on the morning line, there is a ton of value to be found throughout the card with large fields and competitive races.

And a spoiler alert, I am not picking Gun Runner on top in the Pegasus. I will have my full card report for Gulfstream Park listed under my Multi Track section. The report will be live Friday afternoon.

Here is the opening race from Aqueduct to get the day off to a good start:

AQU Race 1 Md Sp Wt (12:20 ET)
#3 Fools Gold 1-1
#1 Cadeau de Paix 5-2
#4 Mo Flash 8-1
#5 Go 3-1

Analysis: Fools Gold
stumbled badly coming out of the gate last out in her dirt debut, raced near the back of the pack and finished up ell for the runner up spot. no match for a 6 1/2 length winner. The filly showed some promise in her first two starts on turf, both thirds and she took plenty of play in her debut. She was a $425,000 Ocala purchase and out of the stakes winner Moment of Majesty ($630,269). A clean start and she will be tough to beat here in getting the day off to a chalky start.

Cadeau de Paix was fourth in her debut and last out finished evenly in a third-place finish behind the promising filly Hail who went in Thursday's Busanda here. She was three lengths back of Go but she may be able to turn the tables on that foe here with just two starts under her belt. She is the first foal to race out of a Street Cry mare.

Wagering
WIN: #3 to win at 7-5 or better.
EX: 1,3 / 1,3,4

Today’s Featured Race of the Day from Aqueduct:

AQU Race 8 Clm $25,000N2L (4:07 ET)
#4 The Caretaker 7-2
#8 Mineralogy 4-1
#7 Missle Bomb 5-1
#9 Gehrig 3-1

Analysis: The Caretaker
is in for a tag for the first time in his career here for the McLaughlin barn. The colt dueled for the early lead and tired to finish sixth last out against state bred Alw-1 foes. He has done his best running tracking the pace which likely he does here. He broke his maiden here in his second career start last November and was competitive in his first two trips against state bred Alw-1 foes, a close up third and second, but his form tailed off after that. He catches a pretty weak group here.

Mineralogy chased the early pace and weakened to finish fourth last out against $40,000 non-winners of two. The runner up Forge came back to beat $50,000 starter allowance foes by nine lengths in his last outing with a 103 Beyer. He was fourth two back on turf and caught slop three back where he was not a threat late. He owns solid early and mid pace numbers and with Paco up he figures to be sent early.
