Not a bad week so far at Belmont Park with four winners on top on the eight-race card on Wednesday and five more winners on top on yesterday’s nine race card.

We had five recommended exactas yesterday: $16.60, $13.60, $56.00, $61.50 and $41.80.

We have a week before the start of the Breeders’ Cup and one of the marquee names in racing will be in action a week earlier.

On Saturday Maximum Security returns, making his first start since winning the Haskell Invitational (G1) at Monmouth Park. He would have been one of the favorites for the Breeders’ Cup Classic (G1) but has been on the sidelines.




He had to scratch out of the Pennsylvania Derby (G1) in September with a case of colic.

Now after he goes in the $200,000 Bold Ruler Handicap (G3) on Saturday at Belmont Park he will be pointed toward the $600,000 Clark Handicap (G1) at Churchill Downs and the $750,000 Cigar Mile (G1) at Aqueduct.

The colt was disqualified from the Kentucky Derby (G1) in May and placed 17th, the first disqualification for interference in the history of the Run for the Roses.

The colt drew the one post for the Bold Ruler and was installed as the even money favorite on the morning line.

A sweep of the Bold Ruler, Clark and Cigar Mile along with wins in the Florida Derby and Haskell could garner him a few votes for Horse of the Year, but that title likely will be decided next weekend at Santa Anita.

Here is the opening race from Belmont Park to get the day off to a good start:

Analysis: Mrs. S. was sent off at 4-5 when making her debut last out, getting away last and making a good late rally to finish in the runner up spot. The filly caught a racing strip that was playing to inside speed that day. She was a $230,000 Keeneland purchase, by Creative Cause out of a Minsters Wild Cat mare hat has dropped one winner. The Pletcher barn is 26% winner with second out maidens. The price will be short but she looks like she can handle this group.

Indawin is also sent out by Pletcher. The filly is out of an A.P. Indy mar that has dropped five foals to race, four winners. Decent works including a near bullet drill out of the gate on Oct. 12 at the Spa for a barn that is 23% winners with first timers.

Analysis: Super Dude was claimed for $40,000 three back by the RRod barn out of a nose win and he regressed next out on turf in his first go for the barn. Back on dirt at Delaware Park last out and he bounced back with a sharp win versus Alw-3 optional claimers. The gelding owns a solid pace profile throughout and the barn finds a good spot for him here running for a straight $50,000 tag.

Leitone stalked the early pace and weakened to finish sixth last out against Alw-2 optional claimers on turf at a mile. He took the field gate to wire to beat $50,000 claimers two back at the Spa at nine furlongs. He has been better on dirt and is back here for the Servis barn that is 31% winners moving runners form turf to dirt. The barn claimed this guy for just $12,500 four back and has moved him forward. The switch back to dirt suits.
