At the Gate – Sunday

Dream Bigger was sent off at 6-5 as our top pick in yesterday’s feature, the $500,000 New York Stallion Series race and the chalk battled on gamely but came up a nose short.

The good news is our second choice Bank On Shea, who was sent off at nearly 11-1 got his nose in front, and the $2 recommended exacta paid a nice $70.,50.

If you used my top two picks in the late Pick 4 and Pick 5 you were rewarded nicely. The late Pick 4 returned $1,343.50 and the late Pick 5 paid $3,715.00.

Sunday’s feature involves another chalk, with Big Q the even money morning line favorite in the $500,000 New York Stallion Series Fifth Avenue Division.

As you can see below, I am going to try and beat her with Time Limit, who is going to need to turn the tables on the chalk, but there will be a decent difference in the price.

We started off well at Gulfstream Park yesterday, four of the stakes included in my Best Plays Report. Lady’s island won the Sugar Swirl (G3) at $8.60 and we nailed a $71.80 exacta, but we whiffed on the next three stakes, with Prince Lucky getting pulled up in the Harlan’s Holiday (G3), not a good way to end the day.

Here is the opening race from Aqueduct to get the day off to a good start:

AQU Race 1 Md Sp Wt (12:30 ET)
#1 Candy Money   3-1
#3 Royal Flag   1-2
#5 We Are Family   4-1
#4 Jasminesque   8-1

Analysis: Candy Money debuts for the Trombetta barn that is 14% winners with first time starters. The filly is by Candy Ride out of a Distorted Humor mare, her first foal to race. She figures to be tighter off works at Fair Hill and Alvarado takes the call. She only has to face four foes here in her debut and looks to be the best option to pick off the big chalk in here.

Royal Flag tracked the early pace and finished up well in a third-place finish in her debut as the beaten chalk. She returns off nearly a three-month break here for the Brown barn that is 30% winners with second out maidens. She is out of a Mineshaft mare that has dropped four other foals to race, three winners and two are stakes winners, top earner Eagle ($754,186). Good works on the morning tab and she is going to be tough to beat here but at a really puny price.

Today’s Featured Race of the Day from Aqueduct:

AQU Race 8 The New York Stallion Series (3:46 ET)
#7 Time Limit   4-1
#1 Big Q   1-1
#6 A Freud of Mama   8-1
#3 Classy Sadie   10-1

Analysis: Time Limit set the early fractions and weakened to finish third last out, beaten 8 1/2 lengths by the favorite in here Big Q. Two back in the Matron on turf this filly carved out the early fractions and held on gamely for the runner up spot. The winner Alms came back to win the Jimmy Durante (G3) at Del Mar in her next outing on Nov. 30. She was beaten just a beck in the state bred Seeking the Ante at 6 1/2 furlongs and her best shot of turning the tables is if she is able to shake loose early. She owns the edge in early and mid pace numbers and if she does not feel much pressure during the opening half mile, she has a shot of taking this group gate to wire.

Big Q came back of a 2 1/2-month break with a career top effort winning eh state bred Key Cents by five lengths. She improved her previous top speed figure by 29 points. She finished behind our top pick two back when she was fifth in the Seeking the Ante. There is every indication she should not have a problem handling the extra furlong, but she is going to be a very light price in this spot. She has put in a cope of god morning drills since her last outing for the Gullo barn. But after catching 9-1 on this gal last out less than even money does not get the pulse racing here.

A Freud of Mama makes her first start on the main track after four trips on turf. Among those was a third in the Matron (G3) at six furlongs two back where she was behind our top pick. She failed to fire last out in the Stewart Manor, fading to finish a well beaten sixth. Her pedigree suggests dirt should suit her fine. She is by Freud out of a stakes placed Carson City mare that has dropped three other winners. The Maker barn is 13% winners moving runners from turf to dirt.

Today’s Featured Race of the Day from Gulfstream Park:

GP Race 8 Clm $16,000N2L (3:30 ET)
#10 Mr Stark   6-1
#7 Pawnbroker   5-2
#2 Youshuldbesolucky   7-2
#3 Sky D   4-1

Analysis: Mr Stark tracked the early pace and checked in fourth last out against $10,000 non-winners of two at GP West in his first go off a four-month break. He was edged for the place spot by just a neck and a nose. Two back in his first go against winners she came with a good late rally to miss by just a half-length here going 7 1/2 furlongs. The Gonzales trainee should move forward second off the break here and the 6-1 morning line looks fair enough to give him a good look here.

Pawnbroker makes his turf debut here for the Maker barn that is 11% winners moving runners from dirt to turf. Last out at Keeneland was his first go off a 13-month layoff, fading to finish 11th against $30,000 non-winners of two. The colt is by Gio Ponti out of an Alphabet Soup mare that ash dropped three other winners and two of them have won on turf. Irad sticks and this guy just may take to turf.
