Tuesday’s Horse Racing Picks for US based tracks

Horse Racing Action at TVG!
It is Tuesday and we actually have a stakes race on tap this afternoon, the $50,000 Highland Ice at Will Rogers Downs at six furlongs that drew a field of nine.

That matches the grand total of stakes races in the U.S. last Saturday. Yes, the $100,000 Purple Martin at Oaklawn Park was the lone stakes race. It was a day that we were supposed to see three key Road to the Kentucky Derby points races.

Nero is the 2-1 morning line favorite for the Highland Ice. The Steve Asmussen trainee has run a few big races including a runner up finish in the 2018 San Vicente (G2) at Santa Anita and a third in the Triple Bend (G2) last May.

Minister of Soul (3-1) is likely going to offer a bit more value and he comes into the race off two very sharp outings at Turf Paradise.

As of now we still have Tampa Bay Downs returning on Wednesday and Gulfstream Park and Oaklawn Park going on Thursday, so we still have plenty of racetracks that are still running.

Horseplayers can stream all the horse racing action using the Watch TVG App. The horse betting company based in the U.S. is offering a risk free bet up to $300 for new players.

My Best Plays Report for Tuesday includes my eight strongest plays from Will Rogers Downs and Fonner Park.

Tuesday’s Featured Race of the Day from Will Rogers Downs:

WRD Race 9 The Highland Ice (5:15 CT)
#1 Minister of Soul   3-1
#3 Trumpence   8-1
#5 Nero   2-1
#8 Imma Bling   6-1
#9 Grade One    5-1

Analysis: Minister of Soul is coming off back to back career tops at Turf Paradise. Last out the gelding dueled for the early lead and drew away to beat optional claimers where were non-winners of a race in three months other than or non-winners of three in life other than. He was a game second two back in the Phoenix Gold Cup and three four and five back he ran into repeat winners. He draws the rail and owns solid early and mid pace numbers. Corbett likely will not have any option other than to send him.

Trumpence misfired at Sam Houston last out in the Stoneside Sprint, the only time he has missed landing in the exacta in his career. He won his first three career starts and earned a career top beating non-conditioned allowance foes two back at Remington park. His return off a short break for the Nolen barn that is 25% winners (with a +ROI) with runners coming back off a 61-180-day break. He is better than he showed last out and looking for him to bounce back here at a decent price.

Tuesday’s Featured Race of the Day from Fonner Park:

FON Race 6 Alw $5,000s (6:15 CT)
#6 Smarty Party Papa   9-2
#7 Shooters Alley   7-2
#5 Ship Stalker   5-2
#2 Hunters Appeal   6-1
#3 Commander McDivitt    6-1

Analysis: Smarty Party Papa tracked the early pace and weakened to finish fifth last out against $7,500 claimers. The gelding beat $5,000 foes here three back off a three-month break and then was a good second at this level two back, beaten just a half-length for the top spot. The gelding owns solid early and mid pace numbers and is better than he showed last out. He comes back fairly quick for a sharp barn and should end up a fair price in this spot.

Shooters Alley shipped in here from Delta Downs and has reeled off three win a row for the meet's leading barn. The gelding drew clear to beat $2,500 starter allowance foes last out going six furlongs. he owns the top last out speed fig and a solid pace profile throughout. He steps into a slightly tougher looking spot her but looks sharp enough to handle it. The 7-2 morning line looks fair, but he seems likely to end up lighter.

Good luck today!
