Horse Races Today: Wednesday’s Will Rogers Downs & Tampa Bay Downs Odds

Horse Racing Action at TVG!
I was looking forward to betting into the mandatory payout of the Pick 5 at Fonner Park on Tuesday, April 7 where over $3.1 million was bet into the carryover pool of $479,810 to equal a total pool of $4,161,515.

In the first leg Where’s Rufus crossed the wire first but was disqualified for interference at the top of the stretch. Taylor’s Prince with jockey Chris Fackler aboard came right up behind the leader in a reckless move and had to steady while it appeared that Where’s Rufus might have come over slightly.

It happened where there was not a good camera angle and just looked like a bad call, lighting up social media with horseplayers complaining about the ruling.

Poor Fonner Park, they finally get into the spotlight and the stewards screw it up at the worst possible time. Where’s Rufus drew off to cross the wire three lengths in front and was much the best.

My top pick in that race was Ohtani, and jockey Jake Olesiak decided to take the scenic route, racing wide throughout and then not persevering with his mount late which might have cost him third. It was a terrible ride giving his mount zero shot of winning.

I have seen more than enough lousy riding at Fonner Park to put me on tilt and next Tuesday perhaps we will just stick with Will Rogers Downs horse racing picks.

My Best Plays Report for Wednesday includes my eight strongest plays from Will Rogers Downs and Tampa Bay Downs.

Will Rogers Downs Odds and Picks: Featured Race of Today, April 8

WRD Race 6 Clm $10,000 (3:45 CT)
  • #4 Texas Long Bow 8-1
  • #8 Lindante 7-2
  • #2 Nomo Ron 5-2
  • #5 Texas Munny Man 3-1
  • #7 Libertarian 4-1

Horse Racing Odds Analysis: Texas Long Bow is one of two in here sent out by the Diodoro barn. This gelding makes his first start since December where the gelding chased the early pace and weakened to finish fifth against $20,000 claimers. The runner up Imma Wild Bling came out of that race to beat $10,000 starter optional claimers in his next outing. The barn is 25% winners with runners coming back off a 61-180-day layoff. This guy won a Texas bed stake last June and has lost five straight since but makes his first start for the sharp barn here and he sports good works at Sam Houston. He looks well spotted here dropping in for a $10,000 tag.

Lindante took the field gate to wire to beat $5,000 starter optional claimers last out in his first trip over the main track here. Broberg runners have mostly needed a race over the main track here as he has gone just 2 for 21 at the meet. The gelding now cuts back to six furlongs and he has done his best running going one turn. He wheels back quick here for Broberg who is 23% winners with runners coming back off a 1-7-day break and 28% winners moving runners from route to sprint.

Tampa Bay Downs Odds and Picks: Featured Race of Today, April 8

TAM Race 5 Md $10,000 (2:30 ET)
  • #6 Goneasagirlcanget 2-1
  • #7 She's a Fair Catch 10-1
  • #9 Mighty Electrica 6-1
  • #12 Tessie's Red Sox 30-1

Horse Racing Odds Analysis: Goneasagirlcanget cuts back to one turn after setting the early fractions and getting caught late in a runner up finish her going one mile and 40 yards. Two back at seven furlongs she tracked the early pace and finished evenly in a fourth-place finish. The winner was DQ'd but came back to break her maiden in her next outing. Three back our top pick checked in third behind a pair of next out winners. She drops into a much easier sport here and Centeno sticks for the low profile barn that is just 1 for 8 at the meeting but five have landed in the money.

She's a Fair Catch ships in from Delta Downs and with just four starts under her belt may have more upside than most of this weak group. Her best effort came two back where she made a mild late rally to finish third going five furlongs against state bred $10,000 foes. She has enough pedigree to handle the extra ground here. Decent value if she goes off near the 10-1 morning line for a barn having a chilly meeting. She is out of a Meadowlake mare that has dropped 13 other foals to race with 11 winners.

Good luck today!
