Horse Races Today: Sunday’s Gulfstream Park Analysis & Odds

Horse Racing Action at TVG!
The mandatory payout of the Jackpot 6 at Gulfstream Park on Saturday paid a nice $31,476.56 for a .20 cent wager. If you were alive going into the last race and missed, I feel for you.

In midstretch in the finale they stacked up six across the track and it looked as if any one of them could win. The 25-1 longshot Areyoutalkintome drew away late, paying $57.00.

Quite a few of my tickets bit the dust after the first leg of the sequence when my top pick Fast Scene lost a brutal photo to my fifth choice Foolish Humor in the seventh race.

My second choice Assertiko got home in the next race at $25.40. Halladay got home as my fourth choice in the ninth race paying $4.60 but I did not use him on many tickets.

The favorite got home in the 10th, Battle of Blenheim paying $4.40, who was my second choice and then my third choice Tap It to Win won the 11th at $12.40. I gave the winner in the finale no shot.

The highlight of the day for us came before the Jackpot 6 even started. I was certain my top pick Temperance lost the photo in the third race but somehow he got his nostril in front, returning $29.80 and with my fourth choice the $2 exacta returned $261.40.

We had the exacta in the sixth for $73.40, in the eighth for $64.40 and in the 10th race for $32.80. In addition, I had the exacta in three of the four races at Tampa Bay Downs, paying $11.80, $51.20 and $8.40.

Gulfstream Park is the only thoroughbred track running on Sunday, but by next weekend we will have Churchill Downs in action and most likely Santa Anita, which is still awaiting the official clearance to start their meeting.

Gulfstream Park Race 1 Analysis - 5/910

GP Race 1 Md $12,500 (1:00 ET)
#2 Noble Maria   7-2
#12 Generic Mark   3-1
#6 Herculina   9-2
#9 Bella Gianna   8-1

Analysis: Noble Maria get the slight nod in a wide open start to the day and I am optimistic we can be on the grass here although there is some rain in the forecast. Our top pick tracked the early pace and finished evenly in a fourth-place finish, beaten two lengths last out against $20,000 foes. It was her first start off a nine-month layoff. She does not need to move forward much off her last effort to beat this slow group as she drops in for a $12,500 tag.

Generic Mark makes her first start since last summer for the Arnold barn that is 7% winners with runners coming back off a +180-day layoff. She did not show much in her two starts against maiden special weight company, a seventh in her debut on the main track. Her turf try last out was slightly better, a sixth at Ellis Park. She drops into a much easier spot here and there is not much else in here to get excited about.

Gulfstream Park Featured Race 8 Analysis - 5/10

GP Race 8 Clm $50,000 (4:46 ET)
#6 Fortune Cookie   5-2
#3 Yodel E.A. Who   2-1
#7 Champagneonme   7-2
#1 Hy Riverside   8-1

Analysis: Fortune Cookie was the beaten chalk last out at this level when checking in fifth behind a couple of foes he faces again today. He was making his second start off the claim by the Maker barn that took him for $62,500. He was a god third in the Rail Splitter, a starter stake in his first go for the barn. He has landed in the exacta in 9 of his 16 trips over the main track including his lone trip on a wet track where he ran second versus Alw-1 company. He is bred to like a wet track. Irad gets the call and this guy is better than he showed last out and can turn the tables if he runs back to his previous efforts.

Yodel E.A. Who stumbled coming out of the gate leaving him away last and after racing next to last he could not make up any ground in the stretch in a sixth-place finish last out against Alw-2 optional claimers. He just missed by a nose two back going a one turn mile in the Rough and Ready. He has run well over the main track here and has a win and a second in his two trips on wet tracks in his career. Joseph looks back on track after going cold for a couple of weeks. Seven furlongs looks as if it should suit him as he drops in for a straight tag here.

Live Longshots:

These are price plays for exotic players looking to find a couple of extra contenders to use in their trifecta and superfecta wagers. Or for those with smaller bankrolls, you might want to get in a small win-place wager.
