Wednesday’s Picks from Saratoga
We have made it through two weeks of the Saratoga meeting and trainer Christophe Clement has been the star, winning with 10 of his 26 starters at the meet.Clement has a good chance of adding to that total on Wednesday, sending out runners in five races including two in the $85,000 Dayatthespa.
Clement will saddle the 7-5 morning line favorite Classic Lady, with a field of six going 1 1/16 miles in the race. She is coming off a tough nose loss in the state bred Mt. Vernon in her last outing on July 2 at Belmont Park. That outing was her first since last November and her first for Clement after she was previously trained by Jorge Abreu.

I landed on War Canoe (8-5) for the Chad Brown barn. She was third in the Mt. Vernon, which was her first start for the trainer. It was her first start since last November where she beat second level optional claimers while in the Linda Rice barn.
She was claimed out of that race by Jason Servis and transferred to Brown after Servis got into a little trouble with the FBI and was indicted for his part in a doping scheme.

Saratoga Race 2 Analysis
7/29 (1:21 p.m. ET)
SAR Race 2 Md $25,000 (1:21 ET) #7 Cross Keys 8-5
#4 Belleza 7-5
#9 Whippy Cream 10-1
#2 Whistlinginthedark 10-1
Analysis: Cross Keys cuts back from a mile in her debut for the Tony D. barn. The filly showed speed, dueling for the early lead and weakening to finish fourth, sent off at 7-1 in a field of seven. She caught a racing strip that was playing to outside stalkers and closers that day. She drops in for a tag here and catches a pretty weak group. She is out of a Glitterman mare that has dropped seven other foals to race with five winners.
Belleza tracked the early pace battled on and then was no match for the winner late in a runner up finish, 4 1/2 clear of the rest of the field. She was outrun on turf in her debut here last summer and then second behind The Great Johanna in her second start, that mare having won three times since. She makes her second start off the layoff here for the Rice barn that is off to a good start at the meeting, hitting at a 27% clip. The filly is out of the stakes winner Shine Upon ($178,937) who has dropped three winners including stakes winner Shimmering Moon ($299,616).
Today’s Featured Race of the Day from Saratoga:
Saratoga Race 7 Analysis
7/29 (4:12 p.m. ET)
SAR Race 7 OClm $62,500N2X (4:12 ET) #9 Ghoul 10-1
#10 Kitten's Cat 4-1
#4 Sayyaaf 8-5
#3 Readyforprimetime 6-1
Analysis: Ghoul made his last two starts at Churchill Downs versus non-conditioned allowance foes. Last out he was off near the back of the pack and came with a mild late run while wide to finish fifth. He won at this condition last December at Santa Anita going 5 1/2 furlongs over good ground. The gelding makes his third start of his current form cycle and is going to get plenty of pace in front of him in this spot. Rosario picks up the call on guy who has won 6 of his 12 starts at this distance.
Kitten's Cat came off nearly a three month break last out for a $32,000 tag and made a good late rally to get up late for the win. The runner up Honey Won came back to beat Alw-1 foes in his next outing on July 11. It was his first start on turf since missing at this level by a head at Aqueduct going six furlongs over good ground. He makes his first start here for the Rice barn that is 25% winners first off the claim.
Live Longshots:
These are price plays for exotic players looking to find a couple of extra contenders to use in their trifecta and superfecta wagers. Or for those with smaller bankrolls, you might want to get in a small win-place wager.
