Picks Analysis

1 – Uncle Chuck (9/5)

Will scratch out of this to run in the Runhappy Travers at Saratoga next Saturday.

2 – Thousand Words (8/1)

At one point, his grit and determination to win his first three starts had him looking like Bob Baffert’s top contender for the Kentucky Derby but he is winless in his last three. Would need his best effort to beat the top two in here.

3 – Anneau d’Or (8/1)

Will scratch out of this to run in the Ellis Park Derby at Ellis Park next Sunday.

4 – Kiss Today Goodbye (15/1)

Broke his maiden two starts back in his fifth try before running last of 10 in an entry level allowance/optional claimer when last seen in mid-May. Hopeless longshot.

5 – Honor A.P. (8/5)

He is undoubtedly the most talented horse in the field. In fact, he may be the only one at this point that could beat Tiz the Law in the Derby.

But this distance, combined with a super small field worry me. Plus, I’d imagine his trainer, who is known for bringing his horses along, doesn’t have him close to 100% tight for this.

That will be the case on September 5. Betting against him today but he can obviously win by a pole.

6 – Cezanne (7/2)

Big ticket two-year-old purchase for $3.65 million didn’t debut until June 6. He was a bit green winning his debut then looked workmanlike when stretching out to a mile.

Thing is, he rated off the pace in both those starts while he should find himself on a loose lead today.

Maybe I’m wrong and he’s better than Honor A.P. overall. I don’t think I am but do feel like he’ll win this purely from a tactical point of view.
