Monday’s Picks from Aqueduct

We have some bonus racing on Monday as Aqueduct is in action with the feature the $100,000 Interborough at seven furlongs which drew a field of six.

We had a good day at the Big A on Sunday with my top pick wining five races on the nine race card along with my second and third choice winning two of the others.

The only problem with that is I whiffed on the second race completely, knocking me out of the early Pick 5 and on the sixth race as I did not use Magnificent Chrome who pulled off the upset to the tune of $89.20, which wiped me out of the late Pick 5.

Portal Creek is the 6-5 morning line favorite for the Interborough and while I don’t much like backing chalk this mare is going to be tough to beat.

She has jockey Kendrick Carmouche aboard who picked dup four wins on Sunday’s card, and now has won 34 races at the meet, winning at a 29% clip. Next in the jockey standings is Eric Cancel with 22 winners.

With the Ortiz brothers in Florida, Carmouche is showing he is a solid rider and hopefully trainers will take notice and continue to give him live mounts with the brothers return. He definitely deserves it.

You can stream the action from Aqueduct today on YouTube or by using the TVG App. The horse betting company based in the U.S. is offering a 50% deposit match up to $250 .  In addition, AmWager is offering up to a $500 bonus for new horseplayers.

AQUEDUCT RACE 1 ANALYSIS (12:50 P.M. ET)

Race 1 Md $40,000 (12:50 ET)

  • #4 Boom Boom Girl   3-1
  • #1 Barista Vixen   7-5
  • #5 Malibu Anthem  2-1
  • #3 Wicked Happy   6-1

Analysis: Boom Boom Girl set the early fractions and held on until late in a fourth-place finish last out for this tag going seven furlongs, beaten 1 1/4 lengths for the top spot. She has now come up short 10 times but catches a soft spot. The blinkers come off but Carmouche, coming off a four win day yesterday sticks and this gal is the lone speed in here. She looks capable of shaking loose early on the stretch out to a mile and may prove tough to catch.

Barista Vixen stalked the early pace and came with a good late rally to come up just a neck short last out at seven furlongs here. It was her first go for a tag for the Mott barn that has been chilly at the meet. She looks headed in the right direction and looks capable of handling the extra furlong. She is out of a Proud Citizen mare that has dropped one other foals to race, no winners to date.

AQUEDUCT RACE 7 ANALYSIS (3:50 P.M. ET)

Race 7 The Interborough (3:50 ET)

  • #6 Portal Creek   6-5
  • #2 Saguaro Row   3-1
  • #1 Needs Supervision   4-1
  • #3 Alisio   9-2

Analysis: Portal Creek caught a sloppy track last out where she set the early fractions while down along a dull rail and finished gamely wile coming up a neck short in the Go for Wand 'Cap (G3). The winner Sharp Starr came back to run second in the state bred La Verdad in her next outing. Our top pick cuts back to seven furlongs which suits her. She beat $25,000 starter allowance foes by 14 lengths in her lone trip at the distance and beat Alw-1 foes going 6 1/2 furlongs three back by 8 1/2 lengths She owns the edge in early and mid pace numbers and looks very imposing here as the chalk.

Saguaro Row makes her second start off a 10-month layoff here for the Stidham barn. Off the bench she tracked the early pace and finished evenly in a fourth-place finish in the Garland of Roses going six furlongs. She won this race last year as the favorite over a wet track. The barn is 18% winners with runners making their second start off a +180-day layoff. She should be tighter second off the bench here but is going to have her work cut out of her trying to catch our top pick heading for home.
