Sunday’s Picks from Gulfstream Park and Santa Anita Park

My top pick Candy Man Rocket was bet down from his 10-1 morning line to 3-1 in the Sam F. Davis (G3) at Tampa Bay Downs and got the job done, paying $8.20 in a good looking victory.

My third choice Nova Rags combined for a nice exacta payoff of $66.80. Disappointing was the 3-2 betting favorite Known Agenda, who made a mild late run but had to settle for fifth.

Donegal Bay was my top pick in the Withers (G3) at Aqueduct, and he was a disappointment, checking in seventh. My second choice Risk Taking got the job done as the favorite paying $5.80 and the exacta with my third choice Overtook, who was sent off at 9-1 paid a solid $41.60.

As expected, Aqueduct is canceled for this afternoon with snow in the forecast for most of the day but there is good news. The NYRA announced they will just bring the entire card back on Monday, so we have some racing action to kick off the week.

I went looking for warmer weather and settled on betting action from Santa Anita and Gulfstream Park for this afternoon. My Best Plays Report for Sunday includes my nine strongest plays from the two tracks.

You can also stream the action from Aqueduct today on YouTube or by using the TVG App. The horse betting company based in the U.S. is offering a 50% deposit match up to $250 .  In addition, AmWager is offering up to a $500 bonus for new horseplayers.

Now is the perfect time to purchase my Monthly Package. It gives you a month of Aqueduct Reports daily and my Best Plays Report each Saturday and Sunday.

GULFSTREAM PARK RACE 6 ANALYSIS (3:10 P.M. ET)

Race 6 Md Sp Wt

  • #9 Boston Post Road 7-2
  • #4 Iced Latte 5-2
  • #1 Red Hot and Blue 10-1
  • #2 Hitech Is Back 8-1

Analysis: Boston Post Road is a $525,000 purchase making her debut for the Brown barn that is 19% winners with first timers. Here at this meet the trainer is 2 for 10 with debut runners. The filly is by Quality Road out of a Bernardini mare that has dropped three foals to race, all winners, top earner stakes winner Top Quality ($139,704). She has been working sharply in the mornings at Payson and looks ready to go at first asking.

Iced Latte goes for Pletcher who is 5 for 28 (18%) with firsters here at this meet. She is by Pioneerof the Nile out of the G1 stakes winner Malibu Prayer ($618,026), her first foal to race. Decent looking works including a couple of recent gate drills should have her ready for her debut here.

SANTA ANITA RACE 6 ANALYSIS (1:34 P.M. PT)

Race 6 OClm $50,000SAL

  • #7 Bruja Escarlata 5-2
  • #6 Translate 3-1
  • #2 A G Indy 5-1
  • #9 Acai 8-1

Analysis: Bruja Escarlata took the field gate to wire to break her maiden at Los Al last out on the main track, drawing off to win by 3 1/2 lengths at 6-1. The fourth-place finisher Star Kissed was a next out grad and three others came back to run in the money next out. Now she tries grass. She is by Street Boss out of a stakes placed Limehouse mare that has dropped two other winners and they have both won on turf including stakes winner Sombeyay ($406,650). The Sadler barn is 17% winners (with a +ROI) moving runners from dirt to turf.

Translate also faces winners for the first time. She came off nearly a three month break for her local debut after shipping in from New York. She drew clear to break her maiden by 3 1/2 lengths going six furlongs on turf as the chalk. Five have exited that race to run back with no next out winners, the best a second and a third. Two back at Belmont Park she was run down late to miss by a head in a solid race that produced a pair of next out winners while the winner High Opinion came back to run second in the Winter Memories. While our top pick owns the top last out Beyer this gal owns the top last out BRIS figure.

Good luck today!
