Wednesday’s Picks from Saratoga

A $145,196 Pick 6 carryover is not a bad way to start off the week at Saratoga on Wednesday. The sequence starts with the fifth race at 3:21 ET.

I had entirely too many Pick 5 tickets with 4 of 5 last week, but I am a glutton for punishment and will likely give the Pick 6 a go as it looks hittable and perhaps not with large tickets.

While there are no stone cold singles in the sequence, there are a couple of races I feel going just two or three deep will get the job done.

One of the most wide open races on the card is the feature, the $120,000 Bolton Landing which drew a field of 10 and two main track only entrants. There is about a 50% chance of showers throughout the day, so wait if possible to get your wagers in.

The Wesley Ward trained Poppy Flower if the 5-2 morning line favorite for the Bolton Landing. The filly was a good looking maiden winner last out in her third career start.

I think the Tom Amoss trained Kneeshhips is worth a look at her 10-1 morning line. She broke her maiden in her debut at Ellis Park going 5 ½ furlongs but earned a fairly slow speed figure. She did come from off the pace and managed to go last to first in a solid effort.

“Saratoga Live” is on FS2 (and streaming on YouTube) from 1:00 to 6:30 ET. Looking to play the ponies? TVG is offering new players  up to a $300 Risk Free wager.  In addition, AmWager is offering up to a $500 bonus for new horseplayers.

Here is the second race (the opener is a steeplechase) from Saratoga to get the day off to a good start::

SARATOGA 2 ANALYSIS (1:38 P.M. ET)

 SAR Race 2 Clm $32,000

  • #6 Free Enterprise 2-1
  • #2 Cantrell Hill 5-2
  • #1 Easy Shot 9-2
  • #3 Flat Out Beautiful 4-1

Analysis: Free Enterprise tracked the early pace and finished gamely to beat restricted $50,000 claimers last out in the mud in a race taken off the turf. It was his first win since beating Alw-1 company back in '19 in his first start after breaking his maiden with a 101 Beyer. Now Brown drops him in for a $32,000 tag here, not exactly a good sign as he is still eligible to face Alw-2 foes but after coming up short at that condition four times it looks like Brown is ready to depart with this guy and pick up a win as he chases Maker for the training title. He is proven over a wet track and has a strong off track pedigree..

Cantrell Hill came with a good late run to finish in the runner up spot last out against $25,000 foes going 6 12 furlongs over the main track here. He was claimed out of the race by Gargan barn that is 37% winners (with a +ROI) first off the claim. He steps up a notch to the $32,000 level here. He beat Alw-1 foes in his lone trip over a wet track in his career. He looks headed in the right direction form wise as he goes from Amoss to Diodoro to Atras.

SARATOGA 8 ANALYSIS (5:05 P.M. ET)

SAR Race 8 Clm $40,000

  • #5 Seismic Wave 7-2
  • #6 Parlor 3-1
  • #7 Attentive 6-1
  • #10 Hieroglyphics 6-1

Analysis: Seismic Wave returns off nearly a three-month break here for the Brown barn and drops in for a $40,000 tag. This guy is a stakes winner and graded stakes placed but is 0 for 3 since landing with Brown this year. Last out against $50,000 claimers he made a mild late rally in a race void of much early pace to run third, beaten two lengths. The runner up was Attentive who came back to win for this tag in his next outing on June 19 and is in here. Decent looking works on the morning tab for Brown who is 26% winners (with a +ROI) with runners coming back off a 61–180-day layoff. Rosario sticks and note this guy did not receive lasix in his first two starts.

Parlor drops out of stakes company for his third start off the bench for the maker barn. This gelding was beaten just a nose in the Makers Maker Mile (G1) last summer at Keeneland at 24-1. His form tailed off after that career best effort, and he has come up short in his two starts since coming back off a 6 1/2- month layoff. He is jammed in here for a $40,000 tag and the way this barn is going it is tough to toss him. He just shipped in after having been working recently at Trackside in Kentucky.

LIVE LONGSHOTS

These are price plays for exotic players looking to find a couple of extra contenders to use in their Pick 4 and Pick 5 wagers. Or for those with smaller bankrolls, you might want to get in a small win wager.
