Boston Red Sox vs. New York Yankees Betting Predictions

The Red Sox and Yankees will go at it once again on Saturday, after battling it out in a close opening day game that finished with a 6-5 Yankees win after 11 innings. Gerrit Cole was a disappointment in his opening day start, allowing 3 earned runs in just four innings of work. Boston’s Nathan Eovaldi lasted a bit longer, giving up 3 earned runs in five innings pitched. The bats were hot for both teams to start the game with three home runs combined in the first four innings.

Nick Pivetta is expected to take the mound for the Red Sox. Pivetta went 9-8 last season with an ERA of 4.53 and 175 strikeouts in 155 innings pitched. Luis Severino is scheduled to get the start for the Yankees. Severino did not pitch much last season as he was recovering from Tommy John Surgery, but was 1-0 and had an ERA of 0.0 with eight strikeouts in six innings pitched. Severino looked solid in his outing to finish spring training, but has raised concerns about arm soreness so it should be interesting to see how he performs.

This should be interesting game considering Luis Severino has not pitched much at all over the past couple of seasons. If he is able to return to his old self then the Yankees should have themselves another ace in the lineup, however, only time will tell how Severino will return. For this reason, I think there is value in the Red Sox moneyline as well as under 9.5 runs. Both teams showed they can score runs, but I think that bats will slow down a bit Saturday. I expect Boston to jump out to an early lead on Severino and makes it tough for the Yankees to come back. Taking the under 9.5 runs and Red Sox moneyline for Saturday’s game.

Boston Red Sox Betting Analysis

  • SU: 0-1
  • RL: 1-0
  • O/U: 1-0

After finishing their first game of the season the Red Sox are 0-1 ML, 1-0 run line, and have an O/U record of 1-0. Going back to last season, the total has now gone over in 9 of the Red Sox last 10 games played. Friday’s loss also makes it the sixth straight game that Boston has lost at Yankee Stadium.

Boston led by one run headed into the bottom of the 9th inning but could not hold on as the Yankees were able to force extra innings. The Red Sox hit the ball pretty well, with nine total hits on the game. Rafael Devers hit Boston’s only home run in the first inning off Gerrit Cole. Shortstop Xander Bogaerts was locked in, batting 3-5 and recording 1 RBI. Center fielder Enrique Hernanadez and second baseman Trevor Story will both be searching for their first hits of the season as both players were hitless on opening day.

The Red Sox sent seven different pitchers to the mound on Friday, with starter Nathan Eovaldi lasting five innings while allowing 3 earned runs, 2 homeruns, and 7 strikeouts. Nick Pivetta is expected to get the start on Saturday. Pivetta was 9-8 last season with an ERA of 4.53 and 175 strikeouts. Against the Yankees last season, Pivetta pitched in two games and allowed 5 runs in 6.3 innings of work.

New York Yankees Betting Analysis

  • SU: 1-0
  • RL: 0-1
  • O/U: 1-0

The Yankees looked solid in their opening day game and are now 1-0 ML, 0-1 run line, and have an O/U record of 1-0. Going back to last season the total has gone now gone over three times in their last seven home games. New York is also now 6-0 in their last six home games against Boston.

New York had their bats working on Friday with nine total hits and three homeruns. Anthony Rizzo and Giancarlo Stanton went deep in the first and fourth innings while DJ LeMahieu hit a game tying homerun in the bottom of the 8th inning.  New York fans should be happy with Josh Donaldson’s first game as a Yankee as he was 2-6 with one RBI, including a walk off hit in the bottom of the 11th. Left fielder Joey Gallo and third baseman Isiah Kiner-Falefa both went hitless opening day and will look to be better in the second meeting.

The Yankees sent eight different pitchers to the mound on opening day. Starter Garret Cole had a disappointing outing, giving up three runs and recording just three strikeouts in four innings of work. Luis Severino will more than likely take the mound for the Yankees on Saturday. Severino pitched in just six innings last season, missed the entire 2020 season, and just 12 innings in 2019. The Yankees are hoping he comes back as the guy from 2018 when he was 19-8 with a 3.39 ERA and 220 strikeouts.

Boston Red Sox vs. New York Yankees Betting Conclusion

Yankees fans have to be excited and maybe a bit nervous about Luis Severino returning to the lineup. As a gambler I see an opportunity to take advantage of this comeback. I think there is a ton of value in the Red Sox moneyline here at +140 considering no one knows truly Severino’s status. I also like the under 9.5 runs as I think that bats will slow down a bit for both teams after 11 total runs were scored opening day.
