Los Angeles Dodgers vs. Colorado Rockies Betting Predictions

The Rockies and Dodgers will play for the second straight day on Saturday after a Dodgers 5-3 win on opening day. Colorado’s starting pitcher Kyle Freeland had a rough day, allowing 5 earned runs in just 3.2 innings pitched. LA’s Walker Buehler had a much better start, allowing just 2 earned runs in 5.0 innings of work. The Dodgers were scoreless in all innings other than their 5 runs scored in the fourth inning. Meanwhile, the Rockies would score just one run after their 2 runs scored in the second.

Tony Gonsolin is expected to take the mound for the Dodgers. Gonsolin was 4-1 last season with an ERA of 3.23 and recorded 65 strikeouts in 55.2 innings pitched. In his only appearance against the Rockies last season, Gonsolin went 5.1 innings and gave up 0 runs. German Marquez is scheduled to start for the Rockies. Marquez was 12-11 last season with an ERA of 4.40 and had 176 strikeouts in 180 innings of work. Marquez pitched in two games against the Dodgers last season and allowed 6 runs in 8 innings.

Neither team hit the ball particularly well, the Dodgers were just able to make the most out of runners in scoring position. I think both teams will hit the ball better in their second matchup, especially the Dodgers. 11.5 is a bit high for me to take the over, but I do think LA will win again by at least two runs. Backing the Dodgers at –1.5 runs here as I think guys like Cody Bellinger and Justin Turner will have much more success on Saturday.

Los Angeles Dodgers Betting Analysis

  • SU: 1-0
  • RL: 1-0
  • O/U: 0-1

The Dodgers looked solid for the most part in their opening day game and are now 1-0 ML, 1-0 run line, and have an O/U record of 0-1 with the total hitting the under 11.5 on Friday. Going back to last season, the Dodgers are now 14-6 in their last 20 games and 8-2 in their last 10 road games against the Rockies.

The Dodgers scored all five of their runs in the fourth inning, but no more were needed to secure the victory. Second baseman Gavin Lux came up huge for the Dodgers, going 1-2 and driving in two runs. Mookie Bets also had a clutch double in the fourth to give the Dodgers momentum and the lead. Not all Dodgers had success as both Cody Bellinger and Justin Turner were a combined 0-9 to start the season. I would not expect that to become a trend as both guys are tremendous hitters.

The Dodgers sent five different pitchers to the mound in Friday’s game. Walker Buehler gave LA a solid five innings and gave up four hits, 2 earned runs, and recorded five strikeouts. The other four pitchers allowed a combined three hits and one earned run in four innings. Tony Gonsolin is scheduled to take the mound on Saturday. Gonsolin pitched just 55.2 innings last season, but had 65 strikeouts and an ERA of 3.23. Gonsolin has a lifetime record of 0-1 in two starts at Coors Field.

Colorado Rockies Betting Analysis

  • SU: 0-1
  • RL: 0-1
  • O/U: 0-1

After their first game of the season the Rockies are 0-1 ML, 0-1 run line, and have an O/U record of 0-1 after the total failed to go over 11.5 runs. Going back to last season the Rockies are now 3-8 SU in their last 11 games and the total has gone under in six of their last seven home games.

Give credit to the Dodgers bullpen, but the Rockies could not get much of anything going after their two runs scored in the second inning. Colorado had just seven hits throughout the game as not one player had more than one hit. The Rockies had their chances throughout the game, but could not capitalize, going 3-12 with runners in scoring position. Second baseman Brendan Rodgers and center fielder Grichuk were the only Rockies to not record a hit in this one.

Colorado sent four different pitchers to the mound during Friday’s game. Other than Kyle Freeland’s five earned runs were all the runs the Dodgers scored, the other three pitchers did not allow a single earned run and gave up just three hits. German Marquez is expected to take the mound for the Rockies on Saturday. Marquez had a solid 2021 season, going 12-11 with an ERA of 4.40, but struggled against the Dodgers allowing six runs in eight innings over two-games.

Key Players to Watch

  • COL: Kris Bryant - OF (Last Game: 1-4, 2B, BB, K)
  • COL: Charlie Blackmon - OF (Last Game: 1-5, 2B, RBI, 2 K)

Probable Pitchers

  • LAD: Tony Gonsolin - RHP (3.23 ERA, 65 K, 1.35 WHIP)
  • COL: German Marquez - RHP (12-11, 4.40 ERA, 176 K, 1.27 WHIP)

Los Angeles Dodgers vs. Colorado Rockies Betting Conclusion

I like the Dodgers –1.5 for Saturday’s game. German Marquez struggled in both games against Los Angeles last season and that should be no different on Saturday. The depth of the Dodgers bullpen is a bit concerning this season, but I think the offense will give the closers enough breathing room in this one to cover the –1.5 runs. Expect Bellinger and Turner to have much better outings and help the Dodgers win by multiple runs.
