The third Sunday of regular-season NFL action will wrap things up with Sunday Night Football on NBC – as Aaron Rodgers and the Green Bay Packers will visit Jimmy Garoppolo and the San Francisco 49ers at 8:20 E.T.

Green Bay Packers vs. San Francisco 49ers Predictions

After a long offseason of uncertainty surrounding Rodgers’ status with the team, Green Bay looked completely unprepared on both sides of the ball in their opening matchup against the Saints – highlighted by Jameis Winston and company running up an ugly tally of 38-3 during New Orleans’ stunning blowout victory over the Packers in Week 1.

The Packers immediately bounced back though, considering they hosted the Lions on Monday Night Football last week – and finally let out a sigh of relief, as Rodgers carved up Detroit for 255 yards and four touchdowns during Green Bay’s dominant Week 2 victory (35-17).

On the flip side, San Francisco has gotten off to a somewhat odd undefeated start to the new season, considering the Niners led Detroit by 28 in the second half of their opener and only won that game by one possession (41-33) – and tallied just 17 points during their sloppy victory over Eagles last week (17-11).

I’ll take the points with Green Bay here, as my gut tells me the Packers’ loss to New Orleans in Week 1 was a little fluky – while San Francisco really struggled to move the ball against Philly last week, especially before Brandon Graham’s injury.

After barely covering a three-point spread against Philadelphia last week, the Niners head this Sunday’s matchup as a three-point favorite over the visiting Packers – marking the first time Green Bay has been listed as an underdog this season.

The total for Sunday night’s event has crept up to OU 50 at most shops – which ties the highest bar set for a matchup containing either of these teams so far this season (GB-DET, O 50).

After posting an underwhelming three-point effort against New Orleans to open the season, the Packers’ offense bounced back emphatically in their latest matchup against Detroit – but not how most would imagine, as Rodgers connected with his running-back, Aaron Jones, for all four touchdown passes during Green Bay’s dominant 35-17 win over the Lions.

The Niners’ secondary is solid, as they managed to retain most of last year’s defense that ranked fourth in the league against the pass (207.9 YPG). Rodgers demonstrated last week that he’s willing to handle business by whatever means necessary this year though, even if that means dumping off four scores to his tailback again.

San Francisco is an incredibly difficult team to evaluate right now, considering the Niners currently have a 100-million-dollar quarterback in Garoppolo signed to a multi-year deal – while they also just spent a top-three pick on North Dakota State rookie Trey Lance.

Jimmy G has been solid for San Francisco so far this season, as his team currently sits at 2-0 while he boasts his highest quarterback rating since joining the Niners back in 2017 (111.4 QBR). Head coach Kyle Shanahan appears to be somewhat searching for an excuse to give the rookie a shot though – and I have to imagine that Garoppolo will end up yielding one eventually.

After knocking off Philadelphia in an ugly low-scoring affair in Week 2, the Niners enter Sunday night’s event as a three-point favorite over the visiting Packers.

The Packers undeniably had their mojo back against Detroit last week, but they’re still yet to flash that typical Green Bay offensive firepower like fans have become accustomed to witnessing.

Along with taking Green Bay here, I’m also backing Packers’ wideout Adams to score an anytime touchdown in Sunday night’s contest – as Rodgers linked up with the four-time Pro-Bowler for a whopping 18 TD’s last year, which means he’s probably due for at least one after failing to find the endzone in each of his first two outings (13 REC, 177 YDS).
