NEW YORK JETS vs. DENVER BRONCOS PREDICTION

Many people thought Denver would immediately jump to AFC contender status after acquiring Russell Wilson (who is out on Sunday) from Seattle this past offseason, however, that’s been far from the case, as the Broncos opened with a frustrating 2-4 skid consisting of losses to the Seahawks, Raiders, Colts, and Chargers. And while there’s nothing overly worrisome about posting a 2-4 record out of the gate, especially with a brand new head coach-quarterback combo, the nature of their opening skid certainly raises some red flags, as the Broncos’ offense generated 16 PTS or less in five-of-six matchups to open the year (15.2 PPG).

The Jets, on the other hand, are off to their best start since 2015, as New York scored 23.8 PPG and allowed just 21.3 PPG across a surprisingly solid 4-2 start to the season, with their only losses coming in tough matchups against the Ravens and Bengals. They also now get Brett Rypien who is starting for Denver on Sunday in place of the injured Wilson.

I’ll take the under here, as the Broncos’ offense just doesn’t score points, however, their defense has still kept them somewhat afloat by allowing 19 PTS or less in five-of-six matchups this season (16.5 PPG), and they’ve allowed 12 PTS or less in all three of their home matchups (10.3 PPG), so I expect that trend to continue with another competitive low-scoring battle against the Jets in Denver this Sunday.

Score Prediction: Broncos 20, Jets 16
Best Bet: Under 39 (-110)

NEW YORK JETS BETTING ANALYSIS

The Jets finished dead last in the AFC East with a record of 4-13 last season, which tied the Giants (4-13) for the third-worst mark in the league, with the only squads falling behind them in the final standings being the Lions (3-13-1) and Jaguars (3-14).

The Jets showed flashes of brilliance during Zach Wilson’s rookie campaign, as New York pulled off tough upset victories over the Titans and Bengals early in the year, but they desperately lacked consistency on the offensive side of the ball, as their offense scored less than 20 PTS in nine games last year (18.2 PPG), which is a recipe for disaster when combined with a defense ranked dead last in both scoring and total yardage (29.6 PPG, 398 YPG).

However, they flipped the script in the early stages of this season, as the Jets scored 24+ PTS in four of their first six contests (23.8 PPG), while their defense currently ranks 17th in scoring and 9th in total yardage (21.3 PPG, 313 YPG).

DENVER BRONCOS BETTING ANALYSIS

The Broncos saddled up for the homestretch last year sitting well within striking distance of a playoff spot at 7-6. However, Teddy Bridgewater suffered a season-ending injury in Week 14 and Denver limped to the finish line with an 0-4 skid, resulting in a relatively lackluster 7-10 mark for the season.

Denver’s defense is rarely the issue, as the Broncos ranked second in points allowed and ninth in total yardage last season (18.9 PPG, 326 YPG), and so far this season, they rank fourth in scoring and third in yardage (16.5 PPG, 290 YPG). So, the addition of a high-profile QB seemed like an easy fix, but that certainly hasn’t been the case for Denver’s offense, as the Broncos have now scored 16 PTS or less in five-of-six matchups to open the season, which is devastating after averaging 20.4 PPG across Bridgewater’s 14 starts last year.
