WINNIPEG JETS vs. MONTREAL CANADIENS PREDICTIONS

The Jets continue their Eastern Canadian road trip against the Canadiens, a quick turnaround after playing Sunday in Canada's capital city. The Jets picked up a 4-3 win in Ottawa on Sunday to grab a much-needed two points.

The playoff hopes of the Jets are on life support, and playing their worst hockey in a while is not helping them get closer to the postseason. The team has just nine games remaining, and they're well behind both the Dallas Stars and Vegas Golden Knights for that final playoff ticket in the Western Conference, so Winnipeg needs to get on the ball in a hurry.

The Canadiens are coming off a 3-2 loss in Toronto on Saturday night, alternating loss and wins across the past five outings. The Habs are a respectable 2-2-2 across the past six games at home, although they were doubled up 6-3 by the visiting Ottawa Senators last Tuesday in its most recent skate at Bell Centre. The UNDER result against the Leafs Saturday snapped a 3-0 OVER Run for the Canadiens.

WINNIPEG JETS BETTING ANALYSIS

Straight Up - SU, Against the Spread - ATS, Over-Under (O/U)

  • SU: 34-28-11
  • ATS: 38-35
  • O/U: 37-31-5

The Jets snapped a four-game losing streak with their win Sunday in Ottawa, but they're still just 3-5 in the past eight games against Eastern Conference teams.

That's the bad news. The good news is that the Jets are 7-1 in the past eight as a road favorite, while going 6-2 in the past eight overall on the road. They're also 8-3 in the past 11 against teams with a losing overall record. Winnipeg has dropped five straight games played on a Monday, for whatever that's worth.

In terms of totals, the OVER is 5-1 in the past six games on the road, while going 6-2-1 in the past nine against teams from the Atlantic Division. The OVER is 5-0 in the past five when playing on no rest. The UNDER has connected in four of the past five as a favorite, while going 7-3 in the past 10 when favored on the road.

MONTREAL CANADIENS BETTING ANALYSIS

Straight Up - SU, Against the Spread - ATS, Over-Under (O/U)

  • SU: 20-41-11
  • ATS: 37-35
  • O/U: 40-29-5

The Canadiens are 2-2-0 (+180) across the past four games. Overall, things have improved a bit under the watch of head coach Martin St. Louis. Still, the Habs are 8-21 in the past 29 games at home, 7-19 in the past 26 as a home underdog and 17-48 in the previous 65 games as a 'dog. It's a slow go, but the young core of the team has really responded to first-time coach St. Louis' teachings.

As far as totals are concerned, the OVER is 13-5-1 in the past 19 games overall for the Habs, while going 5-2-1 in the past eight games at home. The OVER is also a whopping 22-10 in the past 32 games as an underdog. In addition, the OVER is 13-3 in the past 16 tries against Western Conference teams, while going 7-1-1 in the previous nine against teams with a losing overall record.

Montreal has had a case of the Mondays, too, losing four of the past five played on the day. They're also 9-22 in the previous 31 games when playing on a day of rest.

WINNIPEG JETS vs. MONTREAL CANADIENS BETTING CONCLUSION

The Canadiens have been much better under the tutelage of Martin St. Louis, and the younger players will get a long look down the stretch. After Connor Hellebuyck started in between the pipes Sunday, it's likely backup Eric Comrie gets the nod against the Habs in the second end of the back-to-back. Comrie is 8-3-1 with a 2.68 GAA and .912 SV%, so there isn't much of a drop-off, if any.

Sam Montembault is expected to start for Montreal, who is 5-1 in its past six games against Winnipeg. The Jets won a wild 8-4 game against the Canadiens back on March 1 in The 'Peg, a game which also featured 38 penalty minutes with plenty of slashing, roughing and high sticking with one fight between Chris Wideman and Mark Scheifele.

It's a quick turnaround for Winnipeg for this standalone game, although it's a quick jump from Ottawa to Montreal which makes the trip a bit easier. But the Habs have had the number of the Jets lately. Look for the more rested Habs to take care of business at home, adding to the fact the underdog is 15-7 in the previous 22 meetings.
